SALISBURY, MD - Senior
Elizabeth Bourne pitched a four-hit shutout on Sunday morning as Rochester defeated Salisbury University, 3-0, in the first game of a doubleheader. In the second game, Rochester lost to 18th-ranked The College of New Jersey, 5-1. UR is 1-3 overall and now idle until spring break week.
Over the seven innings, she allowed four hits, walked two, and struck out two. She worked out of jams in the first and the fourth. On Friday, Salisbury swept a doubleheader from UR. The Sea Gulls won the opener, 8-6, in a game that went back and forth through. In the nitecap, the hosts earned a mercy rule 11-3 win.
First-year
Alizah Ayon hit her second home run of the spring and added an RBI groundout later in the game. The third RBI was a sacrifice fly from
Gianna Melillo. Rochester scored one in the first - Ayon drove a two-out home run over the right field fence.- and added two more in the fifth.
Harleigh Kaczegowicz singled to left center and
Marissa Russo doubled down the left field line. Ayon grounded out to short with Kaczegowicz scoring and Russo advancing to third. She scored on the Melillo flyball to left.
Bourne was challenged in the first. Opposing pitcher Jillian Jones doubled to left center and moved to third on a wild pitch. She was stranded there when Bourne induced two groundouts to
Toni Anne Hahn at shortstop.Salisury threatened again in the fourth. A single and a walk put two aboard. Bourne got a flyout to right and a force play at second with Jones, who had the leadoff single, crossing to third. The inning ended on a foul out to Kaczegowicz.
She retired the side in order in the sixth. In the seventh, she yielded a one out double, then got a flyout and ended the game on a strikeout.
In the second game, TCNJ hit two home runs off
Hannah Leahy - one in the second (solo) and a two-run shot in the third to jump ahead, 3-0. The Lions pushed the lead to 4-0 before the Yellowjackets scored an unearned run in the sixth.
