Yellowjackets Struggle in Series Finale Against Trinity

Looking to avoid a sweep against the Tigers, the University of Rochester baseball team sent Kevin Ho to the mound in a game that was delayed an hour to start due to weather.

The weather delay did not appear to faze Trinity University (TX), after Pitcher Ian Hussian was able to get Jake Hertz to ground out and Aiden Finch to hit into a double-play to get out of the first inning with only one hit allowed. Ho seemed pretty comfortable on the mound in the first two innings, getting through those innings on just 19 pitches.

Trinity would start to open it up in the third inning, scoring two runs on two hits to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. Ho would get out of the inning with just those two runs crossing home, leaving two men on.

In the bottom of the 4th, Dalys Binder crushed Ho's fastball over the left field wall to open up that half of the inning. Ho would get one more out before his day would be over, finishing with 3.1 innings pitched, 3 earned runs, and 2 strikeouts.

The Tigers would add on two more runs in the 6th and one more in the 7th. Jack Herman would end the shutout in the top of the 9th with a home run to left. Rochester would fall by a final score of 6-1.

The Yellowjackets struggled all day offensively, producing only 8 hits on 32 at bats. Herman's home run was the only extra base hit for UR this afternoon. Rochester struggled the most with runners on, hitting only 1 of 13. UR would also fail to capitalize on all four opportunities that they had with runners in scoring position. Defensively, Rochester pitchers allowed 6 runs, on 12 hits, and striking out just 4 Tigers.

Herta and Scott Pickering each went 2-of-4 on the afternoon. Harper Sy, Drew Bankovich, and Brian McKinsey each added a hit for UR.

Rochester will return home to face Elmira College on Saturday for an afternoon double-header.
