PRINCE ATHLETIC COMPLEX – The University of Rochester men's tennis team improved to 11-2 on Saturday, defeating St. Lawrence 9-0. Rochester is now on a two-match winning streak after defeating Stevens on Sunday. Rochester also recognized their seniors on their final weekend home game of the season.
Masaru Fujimaki and
Runjia Fang set the tone for the Yellowjackets, getting Rochester their first point of the afternoon, winning their doubles match by a final of 8-1.
Yifan Shen and
Tanmay Thakkar took their doubles match 8-3 while
Sahaj Somani and
Pasquale Procaccino won 8-5 as Rochester swept the doubles matches.
Shen and Thakkar picked up right where they left off to start the singles for UR. Shen won 6-1, 6-0, while Thakkar went 6-1, 6-3. Fujimaki would add to the Yellowjacket lead, winning 6-2, 6-0, to make it 6-0 Rochester.
Fang would have the first 3-set match of the afternoon. After losing the first set 5-7, he bounced back to take the final two sets 7-5 and 10-7 to make it 7-0 on the afternoon. After
Matt Resnikoff won his match 6-3, 6-3, Somani also ended up going three sets (4-6, 6-3, 11-9) to give Rochester the 9-0 shutout.
The Yellowjackets will face off against Hobart College at 4pm on Wednesday in the Goergen Athletic Center.
