GRANTHAM, PA – Rochester got its 2019 field hockey season off to a successful start on Friday afternoon with a 3-1 victory over York College of Pennsylvania. The match was played at the Messiah College Athletic Complex.

Juney Lee,
Catherine Hauser, and
Maya Haigis scored individual goals for the Yellowjackets.
Amanda Strenk assisted on all three goals. Hauser had an assist on Lee's opener.

The Yellowjackets, who are ranked number nine in the preseason poll of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association, will take on 16
th-ranked Christopher Newport University at Spooky Nook near Lancaster on Sunday. That is the site of the national training center.

York opened the match with steady pressure on the Yellowjackets, particularly in the UR defensive third. The Spartans produced four penalty corners in the first four minutes and Rochester goalie
Kate Kujawa stopped a breakaway. She finished with five saves. York goalie Kaitlyn Wallace finished with five saves as well.

Hauser had a goal and assist.
It took 27 minutes to produce the first goal – and then the Yellowjackets added two more in the next 10 minutes of play. A Rochester shot off a penalty corner was saved by Wallace. Lee fired the ball into the low left corner at 27:18 with Strenk and Hauser picking up assists.

UR scored twice in a span of 3:18 in the early part of the third period. Strenk's pass found Hauser for a 2-0 lead 34:00 into the match.
Maya Haigis made it 3-0 at 37:18, turning home Strenk's feed.

It was the second time in her career that Strenk had three assists in one match. She did it last year against Keuka College. The single game record is four assists.

Midway through the fourth period, York scored its goal. Abby Piotrowski's penalty corner found Amanda Boclair and she sent the ball past Kujawa at 52:20.

This game was Rochester's first under the amended NCAA playing rules. Games are played in four 15-minute periods now instead of two 35-minute halves. Additionally, the game clock stops when a penalty corner is awarded. It restarts once the official blows the whistle.
