UR Ends Regular Season In Defeat vs Emory

Despite some bright moments, the Rochester men's team could not build a large enough lead in a 80-76 loss against Emory University on Saturday at the Louis Alexander Palestra. The contest on Saturday marked Senior Day, as Patrick Benka was recognized for his past accomplishments. 

With 1:33 remaining, Trent Noordsij hit a three-point shot to bring Rochester (16-9, 7-7 UAA) within eight points of Emory (21-4, 11-3 UAA). It was soon followed by a deep shot from Benka with 1:15 on the clock.

After getting the ball back, Kailan Lee hit a three-point shot, as the Yellowjackets trailed 78-76. Lee finished with the game with 14 points.  

Successful free throws from Emory put Rochester out of range. 

Rochester managed to land eight of their first 11 shots. Lee displayed consistency, adding seven points during the stretch. 

An 11-3 run by Rochester saw points from four different players. Among them was Ross Gang, who contributed with eight points and three assists in the first half. He ended with 10 points and seven assists. 

Ryan Algier managed to stuff the box score before halftime, accumulating five points, five rebounds and three assists. He finished with a double-double that consisted of 18 points and 12 boards. His efforts marked his fourth consective game with a double-double.  

After eight lead changes and each side shooting above 50%, Rochester trailed 43-39 at the half. 

The defense for the Yellowjackets began to emerge early in the second, as they forced Emory to miss six of their first seven attempts from the field. 

The second half contributions of Brian Amabilino Perez brought Rochester within reach, as he finished Saturday's game with 14 points and grabbing three rebounds. 

Rochester finished 27-of-48 (56.3%) from the field, 6-of-20 (30%) from deep and 16-of-23 (69.6%) from the charity stripe.
