PRINCE ATHLETIC COMPLEX – Visiting Ithaca College used a 3-0 sweep of doubles to propel them past the University of Rochester men's tennis team on Wednesday afternoon at the Lyman Tennis Center.
The Bombers improve to 3-1 on the season with the victory, while Rochester (1-2) suffers its second defeat of the season.
UR got both of its wins in singles bookending the lineup. At #1,
Pasquale Procaccino was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Minos Stavrakas. Meanwhile, at #6,
Thomas Xue closed the match on a positive note, winning 7-5, 6-4 over Anthony Villella.
Ithaca's 3-0 sweep in doubles gave the Bombers the momentum early. Both the #1 and #2 doubles matches were close though, going 8-6 in favor of the visitors. Stavrakas and Deon Kraft defeated Procaccino and
Kai Yuminaga at #1, while Eric Dubilirer and Villella earned their win at #2 over
Antony Georgiadis and Xue.
At 3rd doubles, Nico Vega and Jacob Wachs were 8-4 winners over
Connor Wagner and
Kenneth Lee.
Wagner battled in singles as well, taking Artem Khaybullin to three sets, but the Bombers #3 player earned the 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 win.
The Yellowjackets are back in action on Saturday against Niagara University at the Lyman Tennis Center.
