RIT Squeezes Out 14-13 Lacrosse Win vs. Rochester

HENRIETTA, NY – One day after Rochester seized a Liberty League victory over RIT, 16-8, the Tigers gained revenge by posting a 14-13 victory on the RIT Turf Field with the winning goal scored with two seconds remaining.

Rochester finishes the atypical Liberty League season with a 3-6 overall record, 1-5 in the league. RIT is 7-5 overall, 3-5 in the league.

Kendra Jones led Rochester with five goals and one assist for six points. Mary Panepento scored four goals. Zoe Sullivan had three goals and one assist. Grace Crochiere had one goal. Lucy Haggerty had one assist.

RIT's top scorer was Alanna Fallone. She scored seven times, the last on a free position shot with 0:02 left on the clock. Skylar Burlee had three goals for RIT. Baylee West scored twice, Olivia Africa and McKenna Joint had one apiece.

Much like the non-league meeting between these rivals in early April, this one went back and forth. Rochester fashioned a 9-6 lead by halftime on the strength of three goals from both Jones and Panepento. One of the three Jones goals was scored when the Yellowjackets were playing one person shy after a card. She scored in the shorthanded position to knot the team score at 3-3.

RIT rallied to get back in it, but a goal from Jones kept Rochester in front at 11-9 with more than 17 minutes to play. Burlee and Fallone scored to tie it at 11-all with 14 minutes left. Jones broke the deadlock with 12 minutes left (12-11). Fallone netted two more, pushing RIT ahead, 13-12 at 10:24.

Panepento scored the tying goal with 35 seconds remaining. RIT won the draw following the goal and kept possession. The Tigers were awarded a free position after UR goalie Carlie Bendavid saved a shot by Joint. Fallone took the FP and scored.

Bendavid finished with eight saves. Paulina Goodemote had 12 saves for RIT. Rochester held a 17-12 advantage in ground balls (17-12). Paige Smith collected three. The Yellowjackets won 14 draws. Jones won seven and Emma Little won four. Nikki Nanis led Rochester with three caused turnovers. Crochiere had two as did Smith.
