Rochester's softball coaching staff picked up its second honor of the spring when the coaches were selected as the Northeast Region Coaching Staff of the Year. Votes were conducted among the member schools in each of eight regions. The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) organized the balloting and released the names of the eight winners.
 
The UR staff is comprised of head coach Margaret Yerdon-Grange, assistant coaches Mary Karen Wheat and Brittany Grage '15, and student manager Alyssa Graegin. At the end of the regular season, the group was named as the Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year.
 
They led Rochester to a final record of 35-10 and a tie for seventh place in the NCAA Division III championship round conducted in Salem, Virginia. The 35 wins are a single-season record for victories. Rochester finished 22-3 in the Liberty League and earned the number one seed for the league championships. The Yellowjackets defeated Skidmore College (4-0) and Ithaca College (6-1) in the league playoffs. The win over Ithaca gave Rochester the league championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs. The win over Ithaca was especially pleasing. It was the 500^th all-time victory in softball. The program began in 1998. This was the 24^th season of play.

 
The Yellowjackets were seeded third in a six-team field for the NCAAs. They traveled to Erie, PA and Penn State Behrend College for the double elimination tournament. In the opening round, Rochester defeated #4 seed Penn State Behrend, 6-1. In game two, Rochester defeated #2 seed SUNY Geneseo, 5-2. They won on day three, beating top-seed St. John Fisher College, 7-3. They won the regional title and earned a trip to the finals in Virginia by posting a 3-1 victory over St. John Fisher.
 
At the finals, Rochester was seeded sixth in an eight-team field. UR lost a pair of one-run decisions in Salem, falling to third seed Birmingham Southern, 3-2, and then to seventh seed University of St. Thomas, 2-1.
 
This was Rochester's first regional coaching honor since 2014, which was the last time the Yellowjackets reached the NCAA's final round.
 
Rochester finished in the top 10 of seven statistical categories in Division III, including third overall in home runs (45), fourth in walks drawn (152), sixth in runs scored (309), sixth in shutouts thrown (14), ninth in doubles (86), 10^th in stolen bases (95), and 10^th in home runs per game (1.00 – 45 in 45 games). Three players were ranked in the top 20 individually: sophomore pitcher Emily Sharlach led the nation in saves with five; sophomore first baseman Hannah Keiper was 16^th in home runs with 12; senior pitcher Hannah Leahy was 20^th in pitching victories with 16.
 
Yerdon-Grange just completed her 12^th season as Rochester's head coach. Her career mark is 281-182. Her Liberty League coaching record is 101-34. She has taken Rochester to the Liberty League playoffs 10 times and won five titles. She took Rochester to five NCAA playoffs as the head coach. She was an assistant coach for the other three NCAA playoff appearances, beginning in 2005.
 
Wheat finished her second season as an assistant coach at Rochester after coaching at RIT in a similar role over four years. Grage graduated from the University in 2015, earning Liberty League Player of the Year and NFCA All-America status that season. She was a volunteer assistant coach in 2016, then rejoined the staff in 2020.
