Three members of the 2021 University of Rochester softball team were awarded Academic All-District 1st Team honors on Thursday as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

By virtue of earning 1st Team All-District 3 in Division III, infielders
Alexis Pope and
Toni Anne Hahn, along with outfield
Sammi Re, will now move onto the national ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-America consideration.

District 3 encompasses all of New York State across Division III softball and only a total of 13 student-athletes were named to the All-District team.

Pope, a Biochemistry major, posted a cumulative 3.79 grade point average in her four years at Rochester. The senior was a part of the Keidaeans Senior Honor Society and elected Phi Beta Kappa during the 2020-21 school year. Additionally, she was named a UR Lysle 'Spike' Garnish Scholar athlete in the fall and earned Liberty League All-Academic honors for three straight seasons. She interned with NovaRock Biotherapeutics and will be conducting research next year at the Max Planck Institute of Aging in Cologne, Germany through a Fulbright Grant.

On the field, Pope excelled this season, hitting .338, second on UR, going 45-for-133 at the plate. She added 12 doubles, 1 triple, 4 home runs and a team-best 41 RBI while scoring 38 runs. She was 6-for-6 in stolen base attempts and had an on-base percentage of .409 across 45 games played. The senior was named the Most Outstanding Player at the Erie, PA Regional during the NCAA Division III Championship. Pope also was a 2nd Team All-Liberty League selection this season.

A native of Nazareth, PA, Hahn earned 2nd Team All-Liberty League honors for her performance on the field in 2021. She played in all 45 games for UR, hitting .294 (37-for-126), with a team-high 42 runs scored, 14 doubles and 25 walks. Hahn added seven home runs, 37 RBI and was 6-for-6 stealing bases. The senior had a .571 slugging mark and reached base over 40% of the time (.409 OBP).

Hahn earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.74 while at Rochester, majoring in Neuroscience and was a 3-time member of the Liberty League All-Academic team. She had clusters in Social Psychology and American Sign Language while being a tutor in calculus, chemistry and biology classes. She was a member of UR Globe Med, Colleges Against Cancer and volunteered with the Special Olympics. Hahn has worked in the Chu Lab at the Wilmot Cancer Center since 2018. It is a part of the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC). She also works in the PEAK Lab which is affiliated with and located in the hospital. Additionally, she interned with the Lehigh Valley Health Network in Pennsylvania.

Re recently graduated Cum Laude from the University with a degree in Brain and Cognitive Sciences, earning a GPA of 3.78. She minored in Psychology and earned multiple Dean's list accolades during her career while being a 3-time Liberty League All-Academic honoree. She received a Presidential Scholarship and worked in Dr. Jeremy Jamieson's Social Stress lab at Rochester. Re will be attending Midwestern University in Arizona for a clinical Psychology (PsyD) program, focusing on Neuropsychology.

Overall, Re appeared in 34 games this season, making 33 starts and ended up hit .337 (35-for-104) on the year. She had 28 runs, 5 doubles, 1 triple and 19 RBI while being a force on the bases, swiping 16 steals on 19 stolen base attempts. She added 15 walks, equaling a .420 on-base percentage , second best on the team. She earned 1st Team All-Liberty League honors this season, her second all-conference accolade of her career.

Together, these three, along with the rest of the Yellowjackets helped Rochester softball set a new school record for wins in a season, while advancing to the Division III Finals for the second time in program history. UR ended with a 35-10 record overall and claimed the Liberty League championship for the ninth time in team history.

After voting takes place next week, Academic All-America selections for Division III softball will be announced on Tuesday July 27th.
