PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Rochester claimed its seventh victory of the field hockey season with a 2-1 win over St. John Fisher at Growney Stadium on Wednesday evening. The Yellowjackets are 7-2. St. John Fisher is 3-5. Last Sunday, the Cardinals lost to top-ranked Middlebury College.

Nikki Mercer scored both Yellowjacket goals. Mercer broke a 0-0 tie in the 20
th minute. Fisher goalie Sophia Trozzi stopped
Elisabeth Sidorski on a shot off a penalty corner. Rochester flooded the goalmouth trying to push the ball home. Mercer's initial shot was blocked by Trozzi but she poked in the rebound.

The lead went to 2-0 with just over nine minutes left in the third period. There was a mad scramble deep in the circle before Mercer was able to get a stick on it and push it over the line.

Fisher scored on a swift counterattack down the left sideline with just over five minutes left in the third. Bre Socker ran down the wing trying to catch up to a ball that got a little too far in front of her. She reached it and backhanded a pass into the top of the circle. Rochester goalie
Abigail Walrond rushed out of the net and dove, but Fisher's Gianna Palmer got to it first and guided it into the net. That cut the UR lead to 2-1.

Palmer nearly netted an equalizer at the third quarter horn. SJFC played a penalty corner from the left side to Palmer just to the right of the top of the arc. She whistled a shot just wide of the left post as the horn sounded ending the period.

Walrond made two saves for Rochester. Trozzi had 10 saves for Fisher. One of her stops included a penalty stroke with less  The Yellowjackets held a 20-9 advantage in shots, 12-3 in shots on goal. Rochester amassed 11 penalty corners while Fisher accumulated four PCs.
