ONEONTA, N.Y.- Sophomore
Delainey Hebble scored her first collegiate goal at the perfect time as Rochester defeated Hartwick College, 1-0, here on Saturday. Her goal at 56:06 snapped a 0-0 tie that threatened to go into overtime.
Â
Seconds before,
Nikki Mercer's lifted ball eluded Hartwick keeper Madison Maddocks, but struck the crossbar. Hebble got to the rebound first and buried it. The victory pushes Rochester's record to 2-0 on the young season. Hartwick is 1-1. The Hawks produced some late-game magic of their own in the opener. Hartwick scored twice in the final eight minutes to edge RPI, 3-2, earlier this week. Rochester opened its season on Wednesday with a 7-1 victory over Nazareth College.
Â
In goal,
Abigail Walrond made three saves on nine Hartwick shots. Maddocks registered six saves on 11 Rochester shots.
Â
At the start of the second period, Rochester unleashed a blitz of shots at Maddocks, getting four shots at goal including one by
Juney Lee that hit the post.
Â
The Yellowjackets will play four of their next five matches at home – starting with a Wednesday meeting with Cortland State (7 pm tipoff). The only away game in that stretch sends UR right back to Oneonta – to play at Oneonta State next Saturday.
