ST. LOUIS – Rochester struggled to get into a consistent offensive flow on Sunday afternoon and lost to Washington-St. Louis, 65-48, at the WU Field House. The Yellowjackets, who shot 48% from the floor on Friday night in a victory at Chicago, made 19 of 61 floor shots (.311), two of 16 outside the arc (.125),  and eight of 12 at the foul line. Washington's shooting eye was a little better (26-68, .382). The Bears did make eight three-pointers which helped to open up the paint.

This was a matchup of the two teams tied for third place in the UAA standings heading into the game. Both were 6-4. NYU led the pack at 8-1 after Friday night (17-1 overall). Emory was second at 7-2, 13-5 overall. Rochester stood at 6-4, 14-7, and Washington was 12-9, 6-4.

Chicago upended Emory, 67-51, on Sunday. That dropped the Eagles down to 7-4 in the league. UC is 6-5. NYU defeated Carnegie Mellon, 70-56, in Pittsburgh. The Violets top the standings at 9-1. Emory and Washington are tied for second place at 7-4. Rochester and Chicago are tied for fourth place at 6-5. Next weekend, Rochester hosts Carnegie Mellon and Case Reserve (which will be Senior Day). Chicago and Washington play at NYU and Brandeis. Emory hosts Case on Friday, Carnegie on Sunday.

Julianna Okoniewski. She finished with 15 points.
Hannah Lindemuth had 12 points.
Maura Leverone contributed seven points and
Alexis Sestric scored four points.

Maya Arnott and Jessica Brooks scored 12 points each for the Bears. Lauren Chao had 11, and Naomi Jackson scored eight.

UR led very early (6-4) before the shooting touch got rough. WUSTL outscored Rochester, 12-2, to finish the quarter and build a 16-8 lead. The Yellowjackets hit just four of 17 from the field in the first 10 minutes and missed their first six three-point tries. UR did open the second quarter with a 7-2 run (a drive by Okoniewski, a drive by Lindemuth, and a three-pointer from the right arc by Leverone. That cut the deficit to 18-15. Washington used a layup from Arnott, a jumper in the lane by Brooks, a trey left of the key by Jackson, and two free throws from Arnott to open a double-digit lead at 27-17. Rochester's basket in that run was a 17 footer off the right baseline by Okoniewski.

In the third period, Rochester ran off a 7-0 spurt to draw within eight points (43-35). Lindemuth sank a trey from right wing, then drove for a layup. After the basket, a full-court press produced a steal by Leverone. She managed to squeeze home a layup in a crowded lane. Washington called for time. The Bears came out of the break with nine straight points (52-35 entering the last quarter).
