For the second straight week, the University of Rochester squash program and track and field program have earned weekly honors from the Liberty League Conference.
This week, junior pole vaulter
Madeline O'Connell of the women's track and field team was named women's Field Performer of the Week, while first-year squash player
Yash Fadte was selected as the league's squash Rookie of the Week.
O'Connell picked up two wins for Rochester during the Nazareth Conference Tune-Up on Friday evening. She won the pole vault with a height of 3.51 meters, an All-Atlantic Region qualifying mark. Additionally, the junior ran the 400 meters for the first time in her career and qualified for the All-Atlantic Regional meet with a time of 59.30 seconds, winning the event by half a second. O'Connell's 400 meter time is fourth best in the Liberty League this season and is inside Division III's top 50.
Fadte posted a perfect 3-0 record for Rochester as the Yellowjackets finished #10 in the nation and runner-up in the College Squash Association Hoehn Cup (B Division) at the team national championships. Playing #2, Fadte had three 3-0 wins over opponents from MIT, Western and Cornell. On Friday he won over Joe O'Connor 11-3, 11-5 and 11-4. During Saturday's semifinal against Western, he won 11-4, 11-7 and 12-10 against Dylan Deverill. On Sunday against Cornell, he was one of two Yellowjackets to secure a win, defeating Spencer Yager 15-13, 11-6 and 11-5. Rochester posted 7-2 wins over MIT and Western and was defeated in the finals 7-2 by Cornell.
