MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Five pitchers combined on a three-hitter and the bats were working again as Rochester defeated Cairn, 12-2, on Monday evening at Griffith Field. The Yellowjackets improved to 5-1. Cairn is 1-3.

Four players had multiple hits and three scored multiple runs.
Aaron Whitley and
Josh Leadem drove in three runs apiece.Â
Colby Cruser was 2-2 with three runs scored.
Luke Piontek was 2-4 with three runs scored, two walks, and one RBI. Leadem stole two bases and was caught once. Six of UR's 12 hits were for extra bases.

On the mound,
Sammy Rosenfield pitched into the fifth inning (4.2 IP), allowing three hits, three walks, two earned runs, and struck out three.
Luke Boylan pitched one and a third with one strikeout.
Magnus Sivertson,
Thomas Blaydes, and
Matthew Grier all pitched single innings. Blaydes fanned the side in the eighth.

Rochester scored in six of the first seven innings. UR led, 5-0 after three and extended it to 9-0 with four runs in the top of the fourth. Cairn nicked Rosenfield for a pair of runs in the fourth, but they did not score in another inning.

The Yellowjackets got after it right at the start. Whitley homered to left field to start the game. Cruser singled to center.
Harper Sy struck out. Piontek rapped a double to right, moving Cruser to third.Â
Matt Cappelletti walked. Leadem forced Cappelletti at second, scoring Cruser.

Cruser started it in the third with a walk. He moved up on a wild pitch and went to third on Sy's groundout. Piontek reached when his ball was misplayed in the outfield. Cruser scored. Cappelletti doubled Piontek to third. A wild pitch scored Piontek and put Cappelletti on third. Leadem's RBI single made it 5-0.

Five hits – including back to back doubles by Whitley and Cruser- scored two runs in the fifth. It also chased the starting pitcher. Piontek and Leadem had RBI singles, driving home unearned runs.

The Yellowjackets are idle on Tuesday. On Wednesday, they open a three-game series with Ursinus College – a solo on Wednesday, then a doubleheader on Thursday.
