Yellowjackets Mount Big Comeback In Win at St. Lawrence

CANTON, NY – The Rochester men's tennis team mounted a huge rally in singles play, storming back from a 4-1 deficit for a 5-4 victory on Sunday afternoon against host St. Lawrence University at the Newell Field House.
 
Sophomore Kei Ogawa earned his second match-clinching win of the season at sixth singles, with both coming in 5-4 matchups, defeating Cole Hamilton 6-4, 6-1 for the final point of the match.
 
Rochester now moves to 7-6 on the season, and completes its regular season schedule. UR now turns its focus to the University Athletic Association championships on April 21-23 down in Altamonte Springs, Florida. The loss drops St. Lawrence to 6-7 on the year.
 
The host Saints started out behind after the Rochester second doubles team of Pasquale Procaccino and Krish Vennam earned the first point of the match with an 8-5 win over Adam Heilbronner and Edvin Strandberg.
 
St. Lawrence rallied to hold a 2-1 lead after doubles though, getting wins from Nathan Turtledove and Ben Moolman (8-4) at first doubles and Nico Haet and John Hill-Edgar (8-5) at third doubles.
 
SLU followed with the opening two points in singles, stretching its run to four straight in the overall match, now leading 4-1 after wins from Turtledove at #1 and Hill-Edgar at #5. Turtledove was a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Runjia Fang, while Hill-Edgar topped Adrian Zhang 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
 
The Rochester rally started with a straight set win at #3 from Vennam over Haet. Vennam won 7-6 (3) in the opening set and earned the win with a 6-4 score in the second.
 
Kai Yuminaga earned a three-set win at fourth singles for the next UR point, rallying past Heilbronner 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 to pull Rochester within 4-3 in the overall match.
 
Procaccino followed by earning his second win of the day at second singles, also winning in three sets. The UR senior topped Moolman 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 to square team score at 4-all.
