Rochester Rolls Up 35 Runs and 36 Hits in Sweep of RIT

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 HENRIETTA, N.Y. – It took two innings for the bats to wake up. Once they did, it was an offensive explosion. Rochester swept a Liberty League doubleheader from RIT, 24-12, and 11-0. Game two was shortened by the mercy rule. Game one lasted all nine innings because of the fireworks.
 
Rochester ran its win streak to 10 straight games. The Yellowjackets are 12-12 overall, 6-0 in the Liberty League. RIT is 5-13 overall, 0-4 in the league. Saturday's Ithaca at Rochester doubleheader has been postponed until the end of April due to some less than favorable weather conditions moving in.  Ithaca will play at Rochester on Saturday, April 30 with game one scheduled for 1 p.m. The original DH between Rochester and Union College (on April 30) is moved up one day to Friday, April 29. That will begin at 2 p.m.
 
The Yellowjackets scored 20 runs over the last four innings of the opener to rebound from deficits of 4-0 (in the first inning) and 6-4 (after the RIT third). In game two, Rochester scored nine runs in the first inning enroute to the mercy rule win.
 
Game One:
Rochester 24, RIT 12: The teams combined for 36 runs and 35 hits. RIT scored four runs in the bottom of the first against Bryce West and Lauren Keys to take the early lead. The Tigers took advantage of four hits and one walk. The Yellowjackets didn't get going until the third inning. Alexis Klee walked. She  promptly stole second and moved to third on a throwing error. Ally Kim reached on an infield error that brought home Klee. Kim stole second. Bailey Nicholoff's fly ball to center field was dropped, bringing home Kim. Nicholoff scored on a passed ball. Keys helped her own cause with an RBI double. She scored the tying run on Allison Beckwith's single.

Mason had four hits and scored five runs in the sweep.

After RIT took a 6-4 lead in the third, Rochester scored seven runs in the fourth for an 11-6 lead.Beckwith and Molly Mason had two RBIs apiece in that inning. RIT got the first two runners on in the fourth. That brought on Christin Napierkowski. Three hits and an error led to five runs and an 11-11 tie. Napierkowski, who saved a victory at RPI on Monday, settled down. Over the last three innings, she gave up one run and three hits. She earned a save, the beneficiary of Rochester's offense in the latter innings (including eight runs in the seventh). The win was awarded to Keys, her fourth of the season.
 
Meanwhile, Rochester feasted. The Yellowjackets took the lead for good with four runs in the fifth. Nicholoff had the big blow – a two-run double to left that broke the tie. Hannah Keiper doubled her home and Hunter Gilbreath's single made it 15-11. Keiper drove in six more runs to give her eight RBIs for the game. She doubled for two runs in the sixth, then hit a grand slam in the eighth to cap an eight-run burst.
 
Game Two:
Rochester 11, RIT 0: UR wasted little time in the top of the first. The Yellowjackets scored nine runs on nine hits. Kim singled, swiped second, moved to third on Nicholoff's double. They both scored on Gilbreath's single to left. Kim tripled with the bases loaded later in the inning and scored on Nicholoff's second double of the inning. Seven players had RBIs in the second game. A total of 10 had RBIs in the two games.In the nightcap, Kim had three. Nicholoff and Gilbreath had two each. Molly Mason, Keiper, Madi Turner, and Savannah Nowak had single RBIs. Every player had at least one hit.
 
Emily Sharlach pitched the complete game victory. She set down eight in a row before allowing a walk. RIT put the first two aboard in the fourth, but Sharlach set down the last six to complete the victory. She fanned three for the game. Only two balls were hit out of the infield – flyouts to left and to right.
