NYU Claims 7th Place at UAA's With 5-1 Win Over UR

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL – In a rematch of one of the most tightly contested matches of the season,  New York University captured 7th place at the University Athletic Association Championships with a 5-1 victory over the University of Rochester men's tennis team on Saturday morning at Sanlando Park.

Just less than one month ago, the same two teams meeting in Rochester for a regular season matchup, with the Yellowjackets emerging on the winning end of a 5-4 decision thanks to a sixth singles win from Kei Ogawa to break a 4-all tie.

This time around, the Violets (2-10) wanted no part of the dramatics, taking the early doubles lead 2-1, and won three straight set singles matches to complete the victory.

Rochester concludes its season at 7-9 overall.

In this one, the Yellowjackets got off to a good start, earning the first point of the match when first doubles team Runjia Fang and Kai Yuminaga earned an 8-2 win over Alex Yang and Zachary Freier.

The Violets answered with a pair of 8-4 wins to grab the lead after doubles play. Joseph He and Andy Watterson defeated Pasquale Procaccino and Krish Vennam at #2, while Rumaish Khastgir and Shrey Arora were winners over Andrian Zhang and Kenneth Lee.

In singles, Watterson earned the first point at #5 singles, defeating Zhang 6-2, 6-0, putting NYU up 3-1 in the overall match.

Yang followed with a 6-1, 7-5 win at #1 over Fang, exacting some revenge from the earlier doubles match.

At six, Khastgir defeated Ogawa, the hero from these teams first match, 6-3, 7-5, to claim the fifth point and clinch the match for NYU.

In other singles action that went unfinished, Procaccino battled Freier at #2 and was deadlocked at one set each. Vennam was down a set at third singles, while Yuminaga took the opening set against Max O'Malley at the fourth lineup spot.
