BROCKPORT, NY – In a key late season matchup between two regionally ranked schools, the University of Rochester came out on the short end of a 14-1 decision at SUNY Brockport on Wednesday at the Clark Whited Complex.
Rochester falls to 25-8 with the loss, while Brockport improves to 26-6 on the year.
Overall, the Yellowjackets mustered just four hits in the contest against the Golden Eagles pitching staff. Three of the hits were doubles, coming off the bats of
Josh Leadem,
Alec Ellison and
Dan Tirabassi.
Joseph Rende had the other hit for UR, while
Jackson Reed notched the Yellowjacket RBI.
Brockport's offense struck for runs in each of the first four innings, sprinting out to an 8-0 lead after four innings. The Golden Eagles got a 2-run home run from Nick Pastore in the first inning and Ryan Mansell laced a 2-run single in the second.
A UR error led to three unearned runs in the fourth and the Brockport pitchers, led by starter Colin Pytlak, had more than enough run support the rest of the way. Pytlak finished the game going 6.2 innings while allowing four hits, one unearned run and one walk while striking out seven. Nick Lawlor and Keegan Jarvis did not allow a hit over the final 2.2 innings as well.
Brockport's offense finished off the blowout win with a six run seventh inning. Tom Kretzler had the big blow, clearing the bases with a 3-run triple.
Rochester starter
Spencer Rojahn took the loss, giving up four runs in two innings.
Matt Casiero,
Sammy Rosenfield,
Justin Grossman and
Aidan Cooney all pitched out of the bullpen for Rochester, with Cooney tossing a scoreless outing, striking out two.
UR's final regular season games are set for this weekend against league rival RIT. A doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday beginning at noon at RIT, while Sunday's single game is to be played on the River Campus, also a noon start.
