Yellowjackets Split Pair of Matches At Bluffton

BLUFFTON, OH – The Rochester volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday at the Bluffton Beaver Fall Classic, winning 3-0 over Olivet College before ending the tournament with a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Capital University.
 
In the opening match of the day, the Yellowjackets earned a strong win over Olivet, posting set scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-18 in the sweep.
 
Sonia McGaffigan led the offense with 12 kills while first-years Ruby Moore and Caroline Hoag ended with nine and eight respectively. Gillian Reeder chipped in seven.
 
Hoag also led the team with 20 digs while Katie Westerheim added 17. McGaffigan also was a force at the net with six blocks while Alexia Nelms had 35 assists in the win.
 
Julia Chotiner
Chotiner had four blocks in the Capital match.

The nightcap went to Capital 3-0, with the Comets posting 25-19, 25-19 and 25-23 set scores.
 
Moore was the leading attacker with seven kills, also chipping in seven digs. McGaffigan finished with five kills and a team-high three aces.
 
Julia Chotiner added four kills and four blocks with Reeder also smacking four kills, and picking up 10 digs. Westerheim added 13 digs with Reeder and Nelms each getting two service aces.
 
Up next on Rochester's schedule is UAA Round Robin #2 on October 2nd. The Yellowjackets play Washington-St. Louis and host Carnegie Mellon during that event.
