PRINCE ATHLETIC COMPLEX – No. 12 University of Rochester women's soccer earned its fourth-straight point in University Athletic Association (UAA) conference play, drawing with No. 20 New York University, 0-0, on Friday evening at Edwin Fauver Stadium.
Rochester remains unbeaten at 9-0-5 (0-0-4 UAA) with the tie, while the Violets move to 10-2-1 (1-2-1 UAA) on the year.
While NYU outshot UR, 10-6, and 6-2 on goal, neither team was able to break through, with
Grace Kuropatkin and Tyler Hawkins combining for eight saves. Each team also had just one corner, in a physical game that saw 15 fouls and nine offsides calls.
Sarah Martin would open up Rochester's attack with a shot wide in the third minute, while
Lauren Blanch would fire another one wide in the 21st minute.
Gabriella Funk would force the first of six saves for Kuropatkin in the 21st minute, crossing one in towards goal from the outside left, but the Violets would add just two more shots in the period, neither of which threatened the UR keeper.
Scoreless at the break, the Yellowjackets would look to break through early, as
Claire Grover collected a loose ball and raced towards goal, but her pass intended for
Mia McGinty was blocked, and NYU went the other way.
The Violets followed that up with a pair of opportunities, as Catie Collins one-timed Kelli Keady's cross towards goal, but Kuropatkin made the stop.
Quickly going the other way, McGinty forced Hawkins' first save, and with the pace picking up, Keady added two shots on goal in the 49th and 57th minutes, both of which Kuropatkin saved.
After the first half saw just five shots, the 'Jackets and Violets combined for 11 in the second half.
On a UR corner kick in the 58th minute, Blanch headed one just wide, while the Yellowjacket defense fended off the Violets' attack, drawing a pair of offsides penalties over the next 10 minutes.
In the 73rd minute, Makenzie Rodrigues took the best shot of the day for the Violets, turning and shooting on goal, but her right-footed shot hit the crossbar, keeping UR and NYU scoreless with under 20 minutes to play.
The Yellowjackets' best opportunity of the night came on a 79th-minute free kick from just outside the box, which
Megan Pung launched and sent just high.
Pung had another shot which forced a Hawkins save in the 82nd minute, while Kuropatkin made two saves on shots by Bryce Chan and Rodrigues in the final minute, before the final horn sounded with UR and NYU still knotted at 0-0.
Blanch and Pung each led UR with a pair of shots, while Kuropatkin made six saves, two shy of her season high. For NYU: Chan, Catie Collins, Keady and Rodrigues each took two shots, while Hawkins stopped a pair.
The Yellowjackets will wrap up their weekend with another conference matchup against Brandeis on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Edwin Fauver Stadium.
