The University of Rochester men's basketball team righted the ship after a season-opening loss, defeating visiting Maryville College of Tennessee 87-66 in the consolation game of the UR Chuck Resler Tournament on Saturday afternoon at the Louis Alexander Palestra.

Three players led the Yellowjackets with double-figure point totals. All-Tournament team member
Logan Jagodzinski paced Rochester with 15 points, adding 5 boards and 2 steals.
Matt Niemczura scored 13 and had seven rebounds, also sinking a team-high three treys.
Matt Wiele added 11 points and eight rebounds.

Overall, 13 Yellowjackets etched their name on the stat sheet with points scored. Mitchell Kershener added nine points,
Malachi Moore scored eight and both
Corvin Oprea and
C.J. Amsellem had seven each.

UR (1-1) surged ahead in the early going leading 14-5 following a fast break dunk from Niemczura off a feed from
Andrew Jackson. The lead hit 15 shortly after the midway mark of the opening half when Jagodzinski sank a triple and added two free throws on the next 'Jacket possession.

Over the next three minutes, the Scots (0-2) battled back into the contest, rattling off a 12-1 spurt to trim the Rochester lead to just four at 25-21. Jackson Garner was the leading scoring in the run for Maryville, scoring seven of his 12 points on the day.

With the half winding down, UR rattled off another 7-point burst, capped by a Wiele slam-dunk and Moore three pointer. At the break, UR was up 11, leading 39-28.

In the second half, Rochester was able to keep the Scots at bay for the opening five minutes, but back-to-back buckets from Reed Kemp and R.J. Simmons pulled Maryville within six.

Oprea drained a three to give UR momentum back and Jackson followed with one of his own. Moore added a jumper and Rochester was quickly back up by double-digits, leading 56-44 with 12:17 on the clock. That stretch was part of a 15-4 run for Rochester.

The game-sealing run for the Yellowjackets featured 3-pointers made from Kershner, Niemczura and Jagodzinski, as Rochester went up 78-56 with under four minutes to play.

Kemp finished as Maryville's leading scorer and was selected to the All-Tournament Team.

Later in the evening, Rowan edged Wooster 78-77 to claim the tournament title. The remaining members of the All-Tournament Team were Wooster's Nick Everett and Ashton Price and Rowan's Ja'Zere Noel. Khalif Meares of the champion Profs was selected as the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
