Women Blank Nazareth In Dual Meet Opener

It was a dominant start to the dual match season for the University of Rochester women's tennis team, as the Yellowjackets posted a 9-0 victory over visiting Nazareth College on Saturday morning at the Goergen Athletic Center Tennis Courts.

Rochester moves to 1-0 on the season, while Nazareth drops to 8-3 after playing a good portion of their schedule during the fall semester.

The Yellowjackets started fast and never looked back, posting three 8-0 wins in doubles. The #1 pair consisted of Josephine Libby and Sanjana Karnam, the #2 team was Jasmin Toor and Stephanie Kim, with the #3 squad being Jaclyn Dron and Neha Dania.

It was more of the same in singles, as all six matches went to the Yellowjackets in straight sets.

Both Toor (#3 singles) and Dania (#4 singles) won their first career singles dual match in shutout fashion, each posting a 6-0, 6-0 win. Toor defeated Sarah Ston, while Dania opening the singles scoring with her win over Ali Klee.

UR's first-year Karnam picked up the clinching point at #2 singles, winning 6-1, 6-0 over Theresa Hecht.

Libby, a reigning All-American and current #25 singles player in Division III made the score 7-0 Rochester following her 6-0, 6-1 at the top spot in the lineup against Catherine Zak.

Rounding out the match, Kim breezed past Aly Agnello 6-1, 6-0 and Rola Abouzeina completed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Erica Muscato.

The Yellowjacket women are back in action next weekend, playing on the road at RPI on Saturday and at Vassar on Sunday.
