ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL – The University of Rochester women's tennis team opened its spring break schedule on Monday morning with a matchup against Division I Creighton University.
The Blue Jays (9-2) earned the victory by a 6-1 score at Sanlando Park.
Rochester (1-4) got its point from sophomore All-American
Josephine Libby at the #1 singles spot. In the first set, Valerie Negin looked poised for the sweep with a 6-1 win, but Libby responded in the second, earning a 6-3 win to force a tiebreaker third set. There, the Yellowjacket sophomore emerged with a 10-7 win to swipe a point for Rochester.
Creighton took the other five points in singles with straight set wins. UR's
Jaclyn Dron had the most success among the non-winners, falling 6-3, 6-3 to Allison Wilcox at sixth singles.
Sanjana Karnam dropped her point at #2 to Ana Paula Martinez by a 6-1, 6-2 score and
Jasmin Toor was defeated 6-1, 6-1 by Leanne Kendall at the three spot in the order.
In doubles, Creighton won 6-0 at number two and posted a pair of 6-2 wins at one and three to notch the opening point of the match (Division I scoring counts all three doubles matches as one point).
UR is back in action on Tuesday morning for its second of three Florida matches against Wittenberg University.
