PRINCE ATHLETIC COMPLEX – The University of Rochester lacrosse team concluded its 2023 regular season with a 15-10 defeat at the hands on Union College on Saturday afternoon at Fauver Stadium.
Rochester wraps up the campaign with a 9-8 record, earning the most wins in a single-season since 2017. The Yellowjackets dropped to 4-6 in the Liberty League and narrowly missed out on securing a berth in the conference playoffs.
The win moves Union to 10-5 on the season and 6-4 in the conference.
Union jumped out to a big lead in the first quarter, outscoring the Yellowjackets 6-1 over the opening 15 minutes. First-year
Alyssa Gorny provided the lone tally in the quarter, scoring with Rochester being a player down midway through the period.
In the first quarter, Union controlled possession throughout, securing seven of eight draws and forcing UR to be just 2-of-6 on clear attempts.
In the second, Rochester began to chip away at the lead, scoring three of the four total goals in the period.
Gorny had five goals.

Grace Crochiere cutting to the net for a goal to opening the second quarter scoring at the 19th minute.
After Union boosted its lead back to five,
Brooke Fiannaca found the net from the free position and
Lorelei King used a player advantage to make the score 7-4 heading into halftime.
Play opened up a bit in the third period, with nine markers finding the net, five of which went for Rochester.
Emma Little scored a player-up goal three minutes in and Gorny added a goal three minutes later to make the score 7-6 Union.
The Dutchwomen fended off the rally with back-to-back goals just over a minute apart later in the third. Sydney McPartlon scored from the free position and then assisted on a goal from teammate Dana Nelson.
Gorny got UR back within two, but Union added two more goals to extend the lead out to four at 11-7.
Rochester again went on a bit of a run, with
Lucy Haggerty finding Fiannaca for a goal with under two minutes to go in the period. Gorny followed with a free position tally with just 18 seconds remaining in the third, making the score 11-9, with Union in front.
UR's Little secured the draw control to open the fourth, but a shot from Crochiere was saved by Union keeper Sydney Widlitz. The first-year goalie finished with 10 saves for the Dutchwomen.
At the other end of the field, Drew Charlton scored with 13:01 remaining, kick-starting a 4-goal spurt for the visitors to put the game out of reach.
Gorny notched her fifth score of the game with 1:38 on the clock to complete the scoring for Rochester.
The first-year finished with five goals or more for the fourth time on the year and finished the season with 45 markers, leading Rochester.
Fiannaca added two scores for the Yellowjackets, while Haggerty and Giannettino each finished with two assists. Little secured six draw controls while
Christiana Ciaccio scooped up five ground balls to lead UR.
In goal,
Emily Geiss finished with eight saves.
Union's leading scorer was Katie Julien who scored four goals. Nelson finished with a hat trick, and Dana Truini added four points on a goal and three helpers.
Prior to the game, UR's six seniors, Haggerty, Ciaccio, Little, Fiannaca, Geiss and
Sami Dinhofer were honored with a Senior Day ceremony before their final home game, honoring and celebrating their commitment to the Yellowjackets lacrosse program over the last four years.
