‘Jackets Cruise to a 7-0 Win at Nazareth

PITTSFORD, NY – University of Rochester field hockey scored early and often en route to a 7-0 victory over the Nazareth University Golden Flyers on Wednesday evening at Nazareth's Turf Field.

Six different goal scorers combined for seven goals for UR, as the Yellowjackets scored three first-quarter goals, including Maeve Fogarty's unassisted score just 1:51 into the quarter, and never looked back against the Golden Flyers.

Rochester outshot the Golden Flyers, 10-0 in the first quarter, 18-0 in the first half, and 37-0 for the game, putting together a dominant performance on both sides of the ball. In addition to holding Nazareth without a shot, the 'Jackets also held the Golden Flyers without a penalty corner, earning seven of their own.

After her opening salvo was saved by Madilyn Satter, Fogarty got the Yellowjackets on the scoreboard just under two minutes into the first period with an unassisted, backhanded score. Fogarty would then add another at the 12-minute mark in the first, this time off an assist from Delainey Hebble, as the senior found a Fogarty in the circle to make it 2-0 UR.

In between, the 'Jackets would tally four of their 37 shots on the night, forcing a trio of saves with shots from Vivianna Arnold, Bella Militi and Hebble.

UR would get on the scoreboard one more time before the first-quarter buzzer, as Fogarty ran down the far sideline and found Anya Arseneau with a centering pass, who put the ball into the back of the net to make it 3-0 after one.

The Yellowjackets would continue to pepper the goal with shots in the second, forcing five saves from Morgan Russo, before Grayson Honig scored her first-career goal, deflecting Russo's save back into the net to make it 4-0 with a little over eight and a half minutes left in the second.

Rochester would add 14 more shots and two more goals in the third, the first of which came on a penalty stroke that Zoe Conomikes sent just out of the reach to the left of Nazareth's keeper to make it a 5-0 lead.

And just over a minute later, Novalyne Petreikis would make it 6-0, flinging a backhanded shot off a Russo kick-save right back into the lower-right corner of the net for her first-career goal and a 6-0 lead.

The 'Jackets would add one more in the final frame on another penalty stroke, this one taken by Unkel, who sent it high and out of the reach of the Golden Flyers' keeper, before the final buzzer sounded, giving Rochester a 7-0 victory.

UR moves to 5-4 with the win, while the Golden Flyers move to 0-7 on the year.

Fogarty led the Yellowjackets with 12 shots, including five on goal, scoring two goals and adding an assist. Five other 'Jackets found the back of the net, with Hebble picking up UR's second assist of the night.

In goal for Rochester, Kara Houston earned the win and didn't face a shot in the first 30 minutes, while Katherine Jensen saw the final 30 minutes of play in net to help finish off the shutout, the Yellowjackets' fourth this season.

Rochester next heads to Troy, NY to continue Liberty League conference play at RPI on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 12:00 p.m.
