Louis Alexander Palestra – Rochester women's basketball suffered a tough defeat to the Whitman College Blues in the championship game of the Chuck Resler Tournament hosted at the Louis Alexander Palestra.
Abby Gress was a bright spot for Rochester, contributing nine points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
The Blues were stellar shooting the ball, shooting 50% from the field and 47% from three-point land.
Whitman scored the first two baskets of the game, and Rochester got on the board with a
Tia Poulakidas jumper and scored Rochester's first points of the game.
Gress shouldered the load of the UR offense, scoring the only other field goals in the first quarter.
UR kept themselves in the game by making their free throws with half of their points in the first 15 minutes of play coming from the charity stripe.
Clare Groenewoud closed out the 2
nd quarter with a three and a layup to send Rochester into the half down 41-20.
Raquel Williams got into the mix in the second half, contributing five points in the third, along with
Annelise Dexter putting in four points of her own. Despite their efforts, Whitman kept extending their lead into the 4
th quarter.
For Whitman, forward Korin Baker led the way with 19 points and six boards and Christiane Carlisle contributed 18 points and two steals.
Rochester continues the 2024-25 season in the Oneonta & Hartwick classic on November 15 at 6 pm against Oneonta.
