UR Rolls to an 18-9 Win at Allegheny

MEADVILLE, PA – University of Rochester women's lacrosse led wire-to-wire, doubling up the Allegheny College Gators in an 18-9 road win on Monday afternoon on the Robertson Blue Turf.

Grace Crochiere got UR on the scoreboard first off an assist from Emily Schillinger just over a minute-and-a-half into the contest, before the Gators answered with their first goal of the afternoon from Ema Caragein.

From there though, the Yellowjackets would hold Allegheny scoreless for nearly 13 minutes, tallying the next five goals to open a 6-1 lead.

Just shy of the five-minute mark, Anna Rogers scored the first of her career-high six goals, finding the back of the net off Crochiere's assist, before adding another just seconds later after Jenna Ufberg won the draw control, this time from Gracie Giannettino.

Five early saves from Ava Saffren kept the Gators off the scoreboard, while Alyssa Gorny scored her first, at the 3:11 mark of the first following a ground ball pickup.

Late goals from Kassi Boehl and Giannettino from Heidi Donovan with under a minute to play gave Rochester a 6-1 lead after one, before Allegheny finally answered with the first score of the second.

Lauren Petrarca cut UR's lead to 6-2, but after outscoring the Gators, 6-1, in the first, the 'Jackets kept things rolling into the second, outscoring the Gators by one in the second period.

Giannettino answered Petrarca's score at the 10:08 mark with an unassisted goal of her own, and after a draw-control win and a green card put the 'Jackets a woman-up, Rogers scored another to make it an 8-2 lead.

Following two more scores by Donovan and Lorelei King, the Yellowjackets headed into halftime up 10-4. And while Nikki Cassara replaced Saffren to start the second half, it wouldn't make much of a difference for the Gators.

The 'Jackets quickly went up 12-4 with two goals in the first three minutes of the quarter to start the second half, matching the Gators goal output in the period. Gorny scored to start the third just 33 seconds in, while after UR forced a shot clock violation, Rogers found the back of the net yet again to make it 12-4.

Petrarca and the Gators quickly answered to make it 12-5, and would cut Rochester's lead to just five, 13-8, with three straight to close the third and start the fourth.

However, the Yellowjackets answered with a run of their own, holding the Gators to just one goal the rest of the way, while scoring five more down the stretch.

Rogers, assisted by Schillinger, brought the lead back out to six before Gorny and Rogers again made it an eight-point lead with 7:30 remaining.

Caragein scored the Gators' last goal of the evening on a free-position attempt just shy of the six-minute mark, while King and Gorny tallied two more scores before the final horn sounded with UR up 18-9.

With the win, Rochester moves to 3-2 on the year, while Allegheny remains winless at 0-4.

Rogers led UR with a career-high six goals, while Gorny scored five and King and Giannettino each tallied two. Schillinger and Giannettino each notched a team-high three assists, while Ufberg led all players with eight draw controls.

Defensively, Crochiere and Schillinger each picked up four ground balls, while Rogers caused a team-high two turnovers.

In goal, Saffren and Cassara each played 30 minutes, with Saffren making six saves, while Cassara stopped four.

Rochester next opens conference play at home against RPI on Friday, March 22 at 4:00 p.m. inside Edwin Fauver Stadium.
