Sixteen Scholar-Athletes Join Phi Beta Kappa Ranks in 2024

A total of sixteen individuals, representing 11 University of Rochester athletic teams and programs have been elected to the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa honor society in the spring 2024 semester.
 
The official initiation ceremony is scheduled to take place on Thursday, May 16, 2023, at 3:30 p.m. in the Strong Auditorium.
 
Rochester's chapter of Phi Beta Kappa welcomes a total of 111 seniors and 18 juniors as the 2024 inductees, joining 19 students who were elected last spring as juniors.
 
The class of 2024 Phi Beta Kappa individuals from Rochester varsity athletic teams include; Calista Courtney (women's soccer), Jaclyn Dron (women's tennis), Nick Gaitanis (Men's XC/Track & Field), Mara Heppard (field hockey), Quincy Jaksch (baseball), Bri Jones (volleyball), Madeleine LaChance (rowing), Santino Lupica-Tondo (men's soccer), Rachel Markowitz (rowing), Sarah Martin (women's soccer), Mia McGinty (women's soccer), Charlie Shanks (men's soccer), Nolan Sparks (baseball), Leah Tang (women's swimming & diving), Christian Voloshen (men's XC/track & field), Jonathan Zou (golf)
 
Phi Beta Kappa is the nation's oldest academic honor society, dating back to its founding in 1776. The University's Phi Beta Kappa chapter was founded in 1887.
 
Members are chosen based on exceptional academic performance and a letter of recommendation from a faculty or staff member. New members are elected each spring by members of the Iota chapter at the recommendation of the nominating committee. Approximately ten percent of each graduating class is chosen to Phi Beta Kappa.
