#23 Trinity Tops Rochester in Final Non-Conference Matchup

SAN ANTONIO, TX – The University of Rochester men's basketball team wrapped up its non-conference slate on Saturday, falling at 23rd-ranked Trinity University of Texas by a 97-59 score at the Bell Center.

The host Tigers (7-3) used a big second half, more than doubling up the Yellowjackets to break out to a comfortable lead after sitting up ten at halftime.

Rochester (6-5) was led by three players in double-figure scoring. Graduate student Nate Sock had 17 points to go along with three assists, while first-year Luke Razi added 12 points off the bench. Sophomore David Ackles added ten points and four rebounds for Rochester.

Trinity shot well in the victory, sinking over 53% (34-64) from the field while making 11-of-19 attempts (57.9%) from long range. Rochester mustered a 36% (19-53) shooting performance overall and was 5-for-27 behind the 3-point line.

Christian Green had 24 points and nine rebounds to lead the Tigers, while Jacob Harvey added 22 points and eight assists, sinking five triples as well for the hosts. Overall, 15 players scored a point for Trinity.

UR's Sock hit a 3-pointer for the first field goal of the game just a minute in, giving the Yellowjackets their only lead of the game, before Green added back-to-back buckets to answer for Trinity.

After three minutes, the Tigers lead 10-5 following an old-fashioned 3-point play by Zach Fenn.

UR stayed within striking distance throughout much of the first half, mainly thanks to a strong effort at the free throw line. After Razi hit a 3-pointer with 7:40 left, the Tigers led by just four up 29-25.

The lead remained four as the clock ticked under five minutes in the opening half, with an Ackles jumper making the score 33-29. Trinity closed the period on a 10-4 run though, taking a 43-33 lead into the locker room.

After halftime, Green scored back-to-back baskets to boost the Tigers lead to 14 before Ackles sank a layup and UR's native Texan Corvin Oprea added in an and-one bucket, cutting the lead back into single digits.

Trinity's big run came over the next four minutes, with the Tigers outscoring Rochester 20-5 to vault in front by over 20 points. Harvey had 11 points, while UR mustered just one field goal and committed three of its 20 turnovers during the stretch.

UR's schedule doesn't get any easier for its next contest, as Rochester travels to top-ranked Emory University in a week, opening its 2024-25 University Athletic Association conference slate.
