PRINCE ATHLETIC COMPLEX – Playing a ranked team for the sixth match in a row and the ninth time in the last ten matches, the University of Rochester women's soccer team took on #2 Emory on Saturday, with the visiting Eagles emerging with a 1-0 victory over the Yellowjackets at Edwin Fauver Stadium.
15th-ranked Rochester has overall played a school-record 10 ranked opponents in 2025, with UR finishing the regular season with an 8-3-6 record overall and 2-3-2 mark in UAA play. Emory meanwhile, moves to 16-1-1 on the season and finishes second in the UAA with a 5-1-1 conference record.
Madison Teng scored the game-winner for the Eagles, notching her fifth goal of the season in the 58th minute, tapping in a rebound off a shot that hit the post from teammate Kaitlyn Nimmer.
A scoreless first half saw the Yellowjackets limited to just one shot attempt, that by
Delia McMullen in the final minute, but her attempt was sent wide. Emory meanwhile, was limited to just three attempts in the first half, none of which were on frame.
In the second half, Rochester's
Natalie Santangelo got the first shot on goal in the contest, a volley from a tough angle at the edge of the six-yard box. The play was set up by a long free kick and subsequent header in to Santangelo by
Femke Laudy. Emory keeper Sophia Garcia scooped up the save, one of two on the night.
Five and a half minutes later, Rochester keeper
Sydney Moore earned her first save of the night, punching away Teng's direct shot off of a corner kick.
A couple minutes later, the Eagles scored the lone tally of the game to take the lead.
Rochester was limited to three shots the rest of the way.
Santangelo had a left foot shot from outside the box slip wide left in the 60th minute, and the Yellowjackets added back-to-back chances with under ten minutes on the clock.
At 81:39,
Riya Kunderan had an attempt blocked away by an Emory defender and less than 30 seconds later,
Ava Schmidt tried a shot from nearly 30 yards, but Garcia had a clean look and picked up the save.
Both the Yellowjackets and Eagles will now look ahead for potential at-large berths into the NCAA Division III Tournament, with the field being announced on Monday morning on NCAA.com.
