Liberty League Bestows Five ‘Jackets with Weekly Honors

Five Yellowjackets from the University of Rochester men's golf, men's track and field and softball teams were recognized by the Liberty League with weekly honors, as announced by the conference on Monday.
 
Men's golf sophomore Shibo Wang earned Liberty League Men's Golf Performer of the Week honors, while first-year Luke Evans was named the Men's Golf Rookie of the Week. Men's Track & Field senior Jordan Johnson scored Men's Field Performer of the Week accolades, and senior Bailey Nicholoff and junior Maddie White received Softball Performer and Pitcher of the Week honors, respectively.
 
Wang finished as co-medalist, ranking tied for first among 88 golfers at the Farmingdale Spring Classic over the weekend, finishing with an under-par total of 139 (70-69) for the 36-hole event. In the tournament, Wang led the field in par-4 scoring (2-under), notched seven birdies, the fourth most, and helped the Yellowjackets to a runner-up team finish among 16 teams.
 
Rochester's team score finished at 569 (282-287), with the first-round score matching the second-best single-team round in program history.
 
Evans helped Rochester to a runner-up team finish at the Farmingdale Spring Classic over the weekend, ranking tied for fifth among the 88-golfer field with a two-day score of 141. The rookie led the field with an opening round of 3-under, 67 on Saturday and finished the event with a 74 in Sunday's final round. Rochester tied for 2nd among 16 schools on the team leaderboard with a 569 total (282-287).
 
Johnson had another outstanding week in the throwing events for the Yellowjacket track & field team across two home meets on the River Campus. On Monday at the UR Spring Twilight, Johnson finished as a triple-winner, capturing first place in the hammer throw, discus and javelin. His hammer throw mark was a new UR school record with a distance of 58.33 meters, the current #13 mark on the Division III performance list.
 
Additionally, Johnson's discus toss of 48.95 meters is top 30 in Division III, and his javelin throw of 53.97 meters is fifth best in the Liberty League. On Saturday at the UR Alumni Invitational, Johnson was runner-up in the hammer throw with a distance of 56.49 meters. All four marks were AARTFC qualifying performances during the week.
 
Nicholoff reached base 11 out of 14 plate appearances over four games for Rochester, helping the Yellowjackets to a 4-0 weekend in Liberty League play. Overall, the senior hit .667 (6-for-9) with eight runs scored, a double, a triple and two home runs and three RBI. She slugged 1.667 for the week and drew five walks for a whopping .786 on-base percentage, chipping in a pair of stolen bases as well. Nicholoff had multiple runs in three of the four games, scoring three times against RPI in the weekend opener.
 
White picked up a win and had a save during UR's 4-0 weekend in Liberty League play on Friday and Saturday. The junior appeared in three games overall, tossing 6.0 innings while allowing just four hits and one unearned run while striking out six. White's best outing of the weekend was against RPI on Friday, tossing 2.1 perfect innings while notching four strikeouts. The next day, she closed out a UR victory with 2.2 innings of scoreless ball for a save, allowing two hits while striking out one against Skidmore.
