Women’s Tennis Falls to NYU in UAA 7th Place Match

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL – The University of Rochester women's tennis team wrapped up its 2024-25 season on Saturday morning, falling to #29 ranked New York University by a 4-0 score in the 7th place match at the UAA Championships at Sanlando Park.
 
Rochester ends is campaign with an 11-9 record, posting its most dual match victories in a season since the 2016-17 season when the Yellowjackets compiled 13 wins.
 
In Saturday's match Rochester saw some success in singles play, with Sanjana Karnam, Neha Dania and Maya Bravo all taking a set in their matches. Unfortunately for those players, each match went unfinished as the Violets (8-7) captured the overall match winning the doubles point and three other straight set singles match wins.
 
NYU opened play with a pair of 6-3 wins at both first and second doubles, securing the opening team point of the match. At one, Isabella Hartman and Siona Vallabhaneni won over Josephine Libby and Katie Yang, while in the two spot, Jimena Menendez and Emma Kast upended Lauren Kallas and Bravo.
 
The third doubles match, which went unfinished, saw NYU's Norah Staunton and Hannah Chang leading Karnam and Jasmin Toor 5-3.
 
During singles, Karnam looked poised for a victory at fifth singles against Staunton, leading 7-5, 3-0 when the overall match was clinched. Bravo took the opening set 6-2 against Hartman at second singles, while at six, Dania and Vallabhaneni split the opening two sets, 6-0 in favor of NYU and 6-3 to Dania.
 
NYU's wins came at first singles from Menendez against Libby, Victoria Wang at number three against Yang and Aditi Narayan at fourth singles against Toor.
 
Menendez, the #7 ranked player in Division III won 6-2, 6-2, while Wang, the #47 player in Division III posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory. The clinching point was earned by Narayan following her 6-1, 6-2 triumph.
