Brandeis Tops UR Men’s Tennis in UAA 7th-Place Match

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL – The University of Rochester men's tennis team wrapped up its time in Florida at the 2025 University Athletic Association Men's Tennis Championship, falling to the 33rd-ranked Brandeis University Judges, 4-0, on Sunday morning at Sanlando Park.

Despite nearly taking the doubles point, the Judges won the first three singles matches in quick succession to score a 4-0 victory and finish seventh, while Rochester came in eighth place at the UAA Championship with the loss.

The Judges' doubles tandem of Pierce Garbett and Aidan Wang-Fan took the first doubles match, 6-3, over Alan Wang and Surya Rajamani at No. 2 doubles, but the Yellowjackets would answer back with a win at No. 3 doubles. Kavin Shukla and Liam Rieger combined to top David Galvez and Benjamin Kotzen at No. 3 doubles, 6-3, but Dylan Waters and Daniel Shemesh would eke out a win at No. 1 doubles for the Judges to secure the doubles point.

At No. 1 doubles, Walters and Shemesh would need a tiebreak against UR's Krish Vennam and Ethan Samora, but the Judges' No. 1 doubles pair would top Vennam and Samora in the tiebreak, 7-2, to eke out a 7-6 win and take the doubles point.

Then up 1-0, Brandeis would win three singles matches to take the seventh-place contest, 4-0, earning wins at No. 3, 4 and 5 singles. Aidan Wang-Fan picked up the Judges' first singles point, earning a win by opponent retirement over Shukla at No.4 singles, after winning the first set, 6-1.

Kotzen then made it 3-0 and set up a potential clincher with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Samora at No. 5 singles, before Pierce Garbett wrapped things up at No. 3 singles with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Andy Liu.

In the unfinished matches, Rajamani held a 6-4, 5-3 edge over Galvez at No. 6 singles, while No. 31/8 Walters led Vennam at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 2-1.

At No. 2 singles, Shemesh had taken the first set, 6-2, against Wang, but the UR first-year was up in the second set, 3-2, when things wrapped up in favor of the Judges.

With the win, No. 33 Brandeis moves to 9-8 on the season, while the Yellowjackets wrap up the year at 9-10.
