Softball Sees Four Garner CSC Academic All-District Accolades

University of Rochester softball senior Savannah Nowak, juniors Rowan Mulholland and Maddie White and sophomore Julianna Lyons were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Softball Team, as announced by the CSC on Tuesday.
 
The 2024-25 CSC Academic All-District® Softball Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average. Position players must have competed in at least 90 percent or must have started at least 66 percent of an institution's contests, while pitchers must have made at least 17 appearances or pitched at least 35 innings.
 
Nowak earns her second-straight Academic All-District honor after starting all 37 games for the 'Jackets this season. In 96 at-bats, Nowak hit .219 with 21 hits, 17 runs scored and six RBI, drawing 12 walks and three hit-by-pitches while striking out just once as one of the toughest batters to strike out in NCAA DIII. The senior also added five stolen bases and laid down five sacrifice bunts, while defensively, Nowak helped turn 10 double plays. The Wyckoff, NJ native graduates with a career .280 average and 18 double plays turned, the sixth-most in program history, having appeared in 141 games and made 119 starts over four seasons.
 
A business analytics major with a minor in computer science, Nowak is a three-time Liberty League All-Academic selection and was awarded UR's Sylvia Fabricant Award this spring. Nowak was also heavily involved with UR's VSAAC, serving as President this past year, helping organize numerous community events, and received the Josephine C. Asbury Award for her commitment to community. In addition to her volunteer work with VSAAC, Nowak also volunteered at Sandy Gordon's All-Girls Basketball Camp, at her local church, and with the Boys and Girls Club of Rochester.
 
Following two seasons at Colgate, Mulholland impressed in her first year with the Yellowjackets, slashing .345/.402/.471 en route to Honorable Mention All-Liberty League honors. Mulholland started all 37 games for Rochester, seeing time at catcher and in the outfield, and tallied 41 hits, six doubles, three home runs, 19 runs scored and 22 RBI. The junior also stole two bases and drew 12 walks, while striking out just six times. Mulholland earned Liberty League Performer of the Week honors once this season, and also tied the single-game records for hits and at-bats in UR's 27-2 win at Union on May 3.
 
Off the field, Mulholland is a digital media studies major with a minor in psychology. At Colgate, the junior was named to the Patriot League Honor Roll, while this past year, Mulholland earned Liberty League All-Academic honors. The Yardley, PA native has received several scholarships and will work for the Rochester Red Wings this summer, after having worked with the Trenton Thunder last year. Mulholland also does volunteer work with the Mary Cariola Center, Hearts of Skylar and Adopt a Family.
 
White made eight starts and 23 total appearances in the circle for the Yellowjackets this season, going 7-5 with a 3.14 ERA and 1.36 WHIP. In 69.0 innings pitched, White allowed just 31 earned runs on 71 hits for a .264 opponent batting average, walking 23 and striking out 38 batters. White also turned an impressive 1.73 ERA against conference foes, allowing just eight earned runs en route to five wins in conference play. For her efforts in conference play, White was also a two-time Liberty League Pitcher of the Week, holding Liberty League opponents to a team-low .197 opponent batting average.
 
A double major in business and microbiology, White is a two-time Liberty League All-Academic selection and was named an NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete following the 2024 campaign. The junior right-hander has also earned Dean's List four out of five semesters, and plans on attending dental school following her graduation next year, having shadowed general dentists across the Rochester area since her sophomore year. Back home in McLean, VA, White has also volunteered with the Challenger team at her local Little League.
 
Lyons earned Second-Team All-Liberty League honors this season after a strong finish to the regular season. Overall, the Pittsford, NY native started all 37 games, batting .328/.360/.513 with 39 hits, 10 doubles, four home runs, 17 runs scored and 23 RBI in 119 at-bats. At the plate, Lyons walked twice, drew three hit-by-pitches and struck out just 14 times and stole one base while turning four double plays in the field. The sophomore tied the UR single-game record with five runs scored at Union on May 3, and had a .910 OPS against conference foes, driving in eight runs against Liberty League opponents.
 
Double majoring in biochemistry and economics, Lyons earns her first Academic All-District honor after being named to the Liberty League All-Academic Team earlier this spring, as well as an NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete last year. Lyons received both the Alumni and Masonic Hall NYC scholarships and works in the Halterman Lab at URMC as a research assistant for the preventative care program for children with asthma. This summer, Lyons is interning with a medical clinic in Barcelona, while during her spare time, Lyons volunteers as her softball training facility, as well as with the team at the Mary Cariola Center.
 
Academic All-District selections will be evaluated by a subcommittee and advanced to the national All-America ballot, to be voted on by CSC members within their respective divisions.
