PITTSFORD, NY – The University of Rochester women's soccer team tallied a season-high four goals in a 4-1 victory over host Nazareth University at Golden Flyer Stadium.
Sophomore
Hannah Nagashima had a hand in three scores, tallying one goal and two assists, while
Claire Baim,
Delia McMullen and
Jane Mueller each found the net as well.
Rochester (2-0-2) more than doubled its team goal output on the season, as the Yellowjackets combined for three goals in opening three games to the 2025 campaign.
Overall, the Yellowjackets led Nazareth (2-2-0) in shots 15-8 and took the only four corner kicks of the match. URochester continues its strong play as of late against the Golden Flyers, extending its winning streak to three in-a-row in the last three contests of the all-time series.
After 16 scoreless minutes, Baim opened the scoring for Rochester at the 16:40 mark of the first half. A strong back tackle in the midfield by
Ava Schmidt started the play and gained UR possession. Schmidt then lifted a ball towards the box to
Femke Laudy who sent a cross in front to Baim who deposited a one-timer into the net for a goal.
The score remained 1-0 Rochester until the 35th minute when a long kick from Caitlyn Smithers was sent up field to Giuliana Rodriguez. With UR keeper
Sydney Moore off the line, Rodriguez saw an opportunity and took a volley off the top of her foot and found the wide open net to draw even on the scoreboard.
In the final five minutes of the opening half, the Yellowjackets found the back of the net twice, extending the lead to 3-1.
McMullen scored what would be the game-winner with three minutes on the clock on a breakaway after a terrific left-footed slip pass from Nagashima in the midfield. The ball setup McMullen for a long run alone on goal and she converted on a left foot shot that snuck inside the right post.
As the clock ticked under 15 seconds to play in the half, Mueller slammed in a rebound goal after Nagashima rattled a left wing shot off the crossbar, extending the Yellowjackets lead.
Later in the game, Nagashima would complete the scoring with a penalty kick goal in the 71st minute. The sophomore was taken down in the box on the foul to earn the PK, and stepped up and connected on the score for her first of the season.
In goal, Moore finished with three saves in the win, her second of the season for Rochester. Malone allowed four goals and had five saves for Nazareth in 75 minutes of action, with teammate Katriana Walls playing the final 15 minutes in goal, making one save.
The Yellowjackets now get a weekend off before returning to action at home on Tuesday evening against St. John Fisher University.
