BETHLEHEM, PA – Six Yellowjackets from the University of Rochester men's cross country team competed in the Men's 8K Open Race at Lehigh University's Paul Short Run at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course, before the final six races of the meet were canceled due to extreme heat causing unsafe conditions.
 
Will Straub was Rochester's top finisher in the open race, finishing 258th out of more than 600 competing runners with a time of 27:58.1. Next up for the Yellowjackets was Owen Bernstein, who also finished in the top half of the race with a time of 28:13.2, good for 289th.
 
John Wiest and Anthony Cardoso crossed the finish line next for URochester, placing 400th and 402nd, with times of 29:05.9 and 29:06.9, while Jack Bunaes (421st, 29:15.3) and Jackson Welch (498th, 30:29.2) rounded out the 'Jackets' six competing runners in the open race.
 
The rest of the Yellowjackets' squad was scheduled to run in the Men's College White 8K, set to go off at 12:30 p.m., but the rest of the meet was canceled before Rochester's 10 runners could take off.
 
Rochester will next compete at the Mike Woods Invitational, hosted by SUNY Geneseo in Mt. Morris, NY, on Friday, Oct. 16 at 12:00 p.m.
