PRINCE ATHLETIC COMPLEX – It was a defensive slugfest at Edwin Fauver Stadium on Saturday evening, with the University of Rochester and 4th-ranked Case Western Reserve University battling to a 0-0 draw in the University Athletic Association opener for both squads.
The tie moves URochester to 3-4-3 on the season and 0-0-1 in the UAA, while Case Western Reserve doesn't win for only the second time so far in 2026, seeing its record sit at 8-0-2 and 0-0-1 in the conference.
Overall, the game featured just 18 total shots combined, 10 by CWRU and eight by the Yellowjackets. Five ended on frame, with UR's
Aidan Hartman making three saves, to two for CWRU's Carter Shedd.
In the opening half, Rochester was stymied most of the period by Case's pressure up front, with the Yellowjackets consistently forced to retreat back into their own zone. During the first 45 minutes, the Yellowjackets took only three shots, two by
Milos Bisenic and a third by
Johnny Makula.
Bisenic actually got off the first shot of the contest, coming five and a half minutes in, coming off a volley from outside of the box, with Shedd easily coming off his line to grab the ball for the save.
CWRU's first shot of the contest was a good look from the far post by Saiheed Jah, but his header sailed wide following a cross from the right sideline by teammate Mitchell Fein.
In the 15th minute, the Spartans Sean Wilson sent a ball in from the left wing that trickled just past the right post, keeping the game scoreless.
Makula's shot a minute later from the center of the box was through traffic and ended up wide of the Spartan net.
Hartman's most impressive save of the game came in the 29th minute, as the URochester graduate student denied Micah Rossen's hard shot from nine yards along the left side after the Spartan forward weaved his way through the 'Jacket defense deep inside the box.
Just over five minutes into the second half, CWRU's Wilson had a terrific chance following a long throw and a pair of headers by teammates Ashton McNally and Fein. Wilson's volley from just inside the six sailed high, as he fell to the turf in anguish following the missed opportunity.
Two minutes later, Hartman made a strong read to come off 10 yards off his endline, denying Wilson again after a through ball led him open towards the middle of the box.
UR's Bisenic had an open look from the left wing at the 64-minute mark, but his shot from 12 yards missed high.
Following a corner kick in the 86th minute,
Will Fallona got in on the action with a shot on target, but Shedd made the late save to preserve the clean sheet. For his shot, Fallona missed on a volley attempt, fell to the ground, recovered, and poked a shot from the penalty spot towards the low left corner, with Shedd making the diving stop.
With just over three minutes left on the clock, McNally had the final shot of the game, but it was blocked away by the 'Jacket defense.
Rochester's next matchup is the annual Rochester Derby with the Rochester Institute of Technology, set for Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. at RIT's Judson Stadium.
