Gorny Sets Points Record as URochester Tops Geneseo

PRINCE ATHLETIC COMPLEX – Senior Alyssa Gorny provided a great all-around performance in leading the University of Rochester lacrosse team to a 13-11 win on Saturday over SUNY Geneseo at Edwin Fauver Stadium.

Gorny also had a record-breaking day, as she set the University of Rochester lacrosse career points record, finishing the day with 244 for her career. Gorny had nine points on Saturday, scoring five goals while adding four assists, to surge past UR Athletics Hall of Famer Anni McDonough '98 who previously held the record of 238 career points.

In addition, Gorny led URochester with five draw controls, five caused turnovers and also chipped in three ground balls in the victory.

The Yellowjackets improved to 6-3 on the season, while the Knights fall to 3-5 so far in 2026.

Other top performers for URochester included junior Anna Rogers scoring four goals, while Rose Bunting and Allison Weiden each scored twice, with Weiden also providing one assist. Defensively, Jenna Ufberg matched Gorny with five caused turnovers, while Bunting had three and a team-high four ground balls. Maddie Bunting tied for the team lead with five draws on the day.

Isla Ablin had another strong day between the pipes for the 'Jackets, making double-digit saves for the second straight game. She finished with 13 stops, recording a .542 save percentage, facing 29 total shots (24 on goal).

URochester started out strong in the opening quarter, leading 3-1 after 15 minutes. R. Bunting, Rogers and Weiden all scored in the first for the 'Jackets.

Geneseo battled back in the second quarter though, outscoring UR 5-3, knotting the score at 6-all at halftime.

In the second, Gorny ended up breaking the scoring record on her fourth assist of the game with 6:26 left in the quarter, coming on a goal by Rogers. Gorny assisted on all three of UR's second quarter tallies, twice feeding Rogers and adding a helper on Weiden's second goal of the contest.

After Gorny started the scoring in the second half with a goal 70 seconds into the third, Geneseo scored three of the next four to jump ahead 9-8 with 15 minutes remaining in the game. Grace Reyna notched her ninth and tenth goal of the season during the quarter which gave the Knights the slim one-goal lead.

Early in the fourth quarter, the Yellowjackets had a huge three-goal run to take the lead for good. Gorny scored three minutes in to tie the score at nine before R. Bunting juked through the defense for a player-up goal two minutes later.

Gorny made it 12-10 with her fourth goal of the game with 8:34 left in the contest.

After Reyna scored one back for Geneseo, Weiden found Rogers on a terrific one-timer to give the Yellowjackets a key insurance tally with just over two minutes remaining.

Gorny completed her outstanding day by scoring with the possession clock winding down in the final minute, with Geneseo's Natalie Long beating the fourth quarter buzzer to add one more to the Knights total.

Geneseo ended up leading 29-25 in total shots on the day. URochester corralled 15 of 26 draw controls, while the Knights led in ground balls (27-22) and clears (11-of-15 to UR's 11-of-18).

Rochester now has a week off to prepare for a big conference matchup next Saturday at 11 am, with the Yellowjackets hosting nationally-ranked William Smith College at Fauver Stadium. That game will also be URochester's Senior Day, with the nine seniors being honored with their families prior to the contest.
