ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL – The University of Rochester women's tennis team began play at the 2026 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships on Friday morning at Sanlando Park, falling to the 2nd-ranked Washington University in St. Louis Bears, 4-0.
Top-seeded WashU earned wins at No. 3 and 1 doubles to clinch the doubles point, and then scored three singles victories to take the match and advance to the UAA Semifinals.
Sam Slowik and Lily Brecknock, 10th-ranked regionally in doubles, topped
Lilly Caldwell and
Esther Wang, 6-1, at No. 3 doubles, while Eleanor Archer and Caitlin Bui, the 2nd-ranked women's doubles pair in NCAA Division III, bested
Jasmin Toor and
Sanjana Karnam at No. 1 doubles, 6-1.
At No. 2 doubles,
Neha Dania and
Lauren Kallas trailed Eliana Hanna and Ally Lin, the sixth-ranked doubles pair in DIII, 4-2, before things moved to singles play.
Brecknock, regionally-ranked 18th, earned WashU's first win in singles action with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Dania at No. 6 singles to give the Bears a 2-0 lead. While at No. 3 singles, No. 44/12 Lin topped Toor, 6-0, 6-1, to put WashU in position to clinch and finish off the match.
Nina Moravek would do just that for the Bears, with another 6-0, 6-1 singles win, this time at No. 5 singles over Kallas, to finish off the match, 4-0, in favor of the Bears.
In the unfinished singles matches, Yang trailed #15/3 Archer, 6-3, 3-0 at No. 1 singles, while
Hailey Kornbluth was behind #17/4 Bui at No. 2 singles: 6-1, 5-1. And at No. 4 singles, Karnam trailed Amber Edmonds, 6-0, 4-1.
With the loss, Rochester drops to 8-10 on the year, while the second-ranked Bears move to 16-2 with the win.
Rochester now advances to the consolation bracket, where they'll face the loser of the matchup between No. 4-seeded Emory and No. 5-seeded CWRU in the consolation semifinals on Saturday, April 25, at 12:30 p.m. in Altamonte Springs, FL.
