UR Men Defeated By #25 NYU in UAA 7th Place Match

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL – The University of Rochester men's tennis team wrapped up its 2025-26 season on Saturday morning, falling to #25 New York University 4-0 in the 7th place match at the UAA Championship at Sanlando Park.

URochester finishes the season with a 6-13 record, while the Violets close their season at 10-6 overall. Saturday's win was the second by NYU over UR this season, backing up 6-1 win on March 28 at the Goergen Athletic Center.

During Saturday's match, NYU jumped in front, securing the doubles point with wins at first and second doubles. At one, Niklas von Hellens and Bryan Hui topped Ethan Samora and Alan Wang 6-2. The second doubles group of Shido Ito and Jeh-Lei Fan earned the doubles clincher with a 6-1 over Aiden Swartz and Josh Chu.

In the unfinished doubles match, UR's Surya Rajamani and Andy Liu were locked in a close match against Louis Frowein and Kaustav Guttikona, trailing only 3-2.

The singles matches proved to be hotly contested as well, with three of the six matches reaching a third set. Unfortunately for the Yellowjackets, the other three matches were straight set wins for the Violets, earning the overall match victory.

Guttikonda topped Rajamani 6-4, 6-2 at number six before von Hellens won over Liu at number one 6-3, 6-1.

The overall match was then clinched by Frowein against Swartz at number three, winning by a 7-6 (8), 6-1 margin.

In the other matches, NYU and UR players split the opening two sets. Wang and Hui played at one, with Hui leading 2-6, 6-4 and 4-1. At four, Samora was ahead of Ito 3-6, 6-3 and 3-1 in the third. Chu and Fan were deadlocked in the match at five with Chu winning the first 6-3, Fan winning 6-4 in the second with the third set being tied 1-1.
