CORTLAND, NY –
Natalie Santangelo and
Haidi Schoenberger each scored a goal, one in each half, as the University of Rochester women's soccer team posted a 2-0 victory over SUNY Cortland on Wednesday afternoon at Holloway Field.
The Yellowjackets remain unbeaten on the season, moving to 5-0 with the key regional win. Cortland falls for the second time in 2026, moving to 3-2 overall.
In addition to the goal scorers, sophomore goalkeeper
Eleni McGuire made a season-high six saves, earning her third solo clean sheet of the season.
URochester's first shot of the contest came in the 5th-minute, with
Sydney Holmes' shot towards the bottom right corner getting saved by Olivia Rouse in the Cortland goal.
Cortland responded with a transition opportunity, with Leah Rehm testing McGuire for the first time, with the Rochester goalie coming up with the save.
Later in the half,
Maya Bravo ripped a shot that cracked into the crossbar, keeping the game scoreless.
Santangelo broke into the scoring column in the 25th minute, scoring her fifth of the season, tying for the team lead.
The play started back in the midfield, with
Delia McMullen gaining possession and sending a long pass up the right side to Santangelo. The junior forward settled the ball, made a nice cutback move to evade the defender and then took a hard left-footed shot from just inside the box that found the upper left corner of the net.
After that, the rest of play in the first half was mostly in the midfield, with each team only getting on shot off over the final 20 minutes. URochester did get two late corner kicks, but no good scoring chances were earned on those set pieces.
In the second half, McGuire earned another save in the opening five minutes, denying Gianna Cirilla's shot to potentially tie the game.
Five minutes later, URochester had another crossbar hit, this time by
Eileen Harvey, keeping it a 1-0 Yellowjacket lead.
As the clock ticked under 20 minutes remaining, McGuire made a pair of saves on Samantha Ruffles, keeping the visiting team in the lead.
Just after the 80th minute, Schoenberg got her third score of the year off a pair of passes from
Ava Schmidt and
Stella Van Arsdale, giving the Yellowjackets a key insurance goal.
A long ball came into the attacking zone and was settled by Van Arsdale. The first-year dropped a pass back to Schmidt who sent a through ball along the left wing to Schoenberger. Schoenberger then took her left-footed shot and found the upper middle portion of the net, just under the crossbar this time.
Cortland could only generate one shot the rest of the way, that by Cirilla at the 88-minute mark, which sailed wide.
Overall, the game stat totals were nearly even, with Rochester leading 14-13 in shots. McGuire's six saves edged out Rehm's total by one, 6-5, and the Yellowjackets had a 3-2 advantage in corners.
Rochester's next contest on Saturday versus Otterbein University kicks off a seven-game homestand for the Yellowjackets. Kickoff in that matchup is at noon at Fauver Stadium.
