ROCHESTER, NY – Powered by a trio of Yellowjackets in the top 25 of the 218-runner field, the University of Rochester men's cross country team scored a third-place finish at the UR Yellowjacket Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Genesee Valley Park.
Liam Sakakeeny led the Yellowjackets with a top-10 result, placing eighth with a time of 25:38.1.
Just inside the top 20,
Joe Berry came in 17th with a time of 25:55.7, while
Austin Skeete made it three 'Jackets in the top 25 with a 23rd-place finish, crossing the finish line with a time of 26:09.0.
Nick Ferratella was Rochester's next-highest finisher, coming in 29th with a time of 26:18.7, while
Gus Smith rounded out the 'Jackets' top-five runners, clocking in at 26:39.9, good for 46th.
Maverick Kentz and
Salim Ford finished as the Yellowjackets' displacers, with Kentz placing 66th with a time of 27:08.3, while Ford came in 73rd with a time of 27:15.2.
Jacob Bernd finished two spots behind Ford in 75th place, crossing the finish line in 27:19.2, while
William Eskenas added another top-80 result for URochester with a 78th-place finish in 27:21.3.
As a team, the Yellowjackets combined for 105 points to take third in the 17-team field, with SUNY Geneseo and Colgate holding down the top-two spots. Geneseo, led by the top individual finisher, Collin Brown, tallied 24 points, while the Raiders totaled 35. Brown led the 218-runner field with a time of 25:14.3.
The Yellowjackets will next compete at Roberts Wesleyan's Harry Anderson Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 26, in Chili, NY, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
