BROCKPORT, NY – The University of Rochester women's cross country team started its 2026 campaign with a third place result at the Brockport Tom Balon Invitational at Sweden Town Park.
URochester's first-year class showed its strength with the first five finishers in the lineup being rookies on the squad.
Gypsy Wish finished the 5-kilometer course in 20:18.0 to rank in fifth place overall, while classmate
Maddy Mariani was also in the top-10, finishing ninth in 20:46.0.
Maya Kumar ended 13th in the field with a time of 20:52.6, scoring third for the Yellowjackets.
First-year's
Claire McDonald and
Juliana Raigosa rounded out the scoring runners for URochester, placing 20th and 21st, respectively. McDonald crossed the finish in 21:04.4 while Raigosa clocked in at 21:07.4
The Yellowjacket displacers were junior
Adriana Ochoa in 24th (21:11.8) and first-year
Olivia Nibot who placed 25th (21:18.0).
Others in the top half of the 108-runner field included
Kara Goldstein in 34th,
Ariane Yedidia in 42nd,
Miranda Fioravanti in 43rd and
Chloe Fietze in 50th. All of UR's finishing runners posted times below 23 minutes.
As a team, the Yellowjackets scored 63 points, finishing third of eight teams. Host Brockport was the team champion with 46 points, while Division II D'Youville University was second with 56 team points.
UR's next event on the calendar is the URochester Yellowjacket Invitational at Genesee Valley Park on September 19.
