Adam Griggs joined the Rochester football staff in the spring of 2018 and serves as UR’s offensive coordinator and offensive line coach.
Since his first arrival, Griggs has helped coach UR's offensive lineman to seven All-Liberty League honors, including Luke Wilson who was a 3-time Second Team recipient.
In 2022, the Yellowjackets offense had the fourth most rushing yards (422) in a single-game against Utica and set a program record in that game, averaging 9.0 yards per carry. Additionaly, Griggs and the UR offense eclipsed the 2,000-yard rushing total, ranking seventh in a single-season at Rochester with 2,078, led by All-American running back Daniel Papantonis.
During 2023, Griggs' offense took to the air, finishing tied for the single-season passing attempts record (331) and ranking second in school history with 193 completions. The team also ranks third in the UR record book with a 58.3 completion percentage and recorded 1,980 passing yards, eighth most in program history. Rochester's offensive line also was honored with a spot on the D3football.com Team of the Week following a 285-yard, 5-touchdown performance against Alfred State during the 2023 season.
Griggs also was a coach for the Yellowjacket running backs and wide receivers during the 2020 year.
Since he came to the University, Griggs has overseen the football Academic Performance Program, which has yielded eight consecutive semesters with a team GPA over 3.0.
Griggs’ joined the University after spending time as the special teams coordinator and tight ends coach at Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he worked under current UR head coach Chad Martinovich. Prior to coaching at MIT, Griggs had multiple coaching stints at Bentley University and Assumption College.
He began his coaching career at Assumption in 2006, coaching tight ends for the 2007 season. He then moved on to Bentley where he was offensive line coach, assistant offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator for the Falcons through 2011.
Griggs then returned to Assumption where he was the Greyhounds offensive coordinator for one season. He went back to Bentley in June, 2013 and stayed on as special teams coordinator and wide receivers coach until 2017 when Martinovich hired him at MIT.
A three-year starter and four-year letter winner for Bentley, Griggs was a two-time All-Northeast 10 offensive lineman, earning 1st Team accolades in 2004, when he also earned All-New England regional honors. Griggs also excelled in the classroom, earning CoSIDA Academic All-District honors in 2003.
He graduated from Bentley University in 2006 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Design and Corporate Communication. Griggs was named the Bentley Student Athlete of the Year in 2004 and 2006.
Griggs received his Masters Degree in Education (Teaching and Curriculum) from Rochester in 2021.
