Chris Sapp joined the University of Rochester coaching staff in 2018 as the teams Defensive Coordinator and defensive backs coach.
During his time with Rochester, Sapp has coached a total of 25 players to All-Conference accolades, five to All-Region recognition, and one player, Jordy Tawa, to All-America honors in 2024. The Yellowjacket defense in 2024 was ranked nationally in Division III in red-zone defense (8th) and total interceptions (15th), leading the Liberty League in both categories.

Sapp had previously spent the last six years at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. During his time with the Polar Bears, he served as special teams coordinator, defensive backs coach, running backs coach, defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator.

In 2014, Sapp was a guest coach for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League.

Prior to coaching at Bowdoin, Sapp was a defensive graduate assistant at Middle Tennessee State University where he helped coach two future NFL players.

From 2006-10, Sapp coached at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, assisting with wide receivers and returners. He and current UR Head Coach Chad Martinovich were at RPI for four seasons together. Sapp also spent time at Division I Clemson University where he was an administrative assistant for football operations during the 2005-06 season.

Sapp attended North Greenville University in Tigerville, South Carolina where he was a three-year starter and two-time captain for the Crusaders. He graduated from NGU with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management and minored in Business Administration in 2005.

He also earned a Master’s Degree in Human and Health Performance from Middle Tennessee State University in 2011.
Sapp and his wife, Jessica, reside in West Henrietta with their sons, Nico and Gio.
