Chris Manning

Manning joined the University of Rochester men’s basketball coaching staff for the 2020-21 season. Manning has a wealth of experience playing and coaching on the Division II and Division III levels.
 
In over ten years playing and coaching college basketball, Manning helped his teams reach six championship games, make six NCAA playoff appearances, and win 20 or more games five times. He was honored with the Under Armour 30-Under-30 Award presented by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).
 
Manning came to Rochester after coaching at Division II St. Michael’s College in Colchester, VT. Previously, he coached at SUNY Plattsburgh (2016-19) and at St. Lawrence University (2015-16). He was a student assistant coach at Plattsburgh in 2014-15.
 
As a player at SUNY Plattsburgh, he led Division III in steals per game in 2012-13. The following year, he led the nation in total steals. He captained the Cardinals in 2013-14.  He earned back-to-back All-SUNYAC honors. Plattsburgh had a two-year record of 44-15 and played in the SUNYAC Championship Game in each season. The Cardinals played in the NCAA tournament both years, advancing to the Sweet 16 in 2013-14.
 
In 2014-15, he worked as a student assistant coach. Plattsburgh had three All-SUNYAC honorees that year, won the league’s in-season title, and finished 19-8. He joined the coaching staff at St. Lawrence for 2015-16. The Saints qualified for the Liberty League playoffs for the first time in six seasons and reached the league’s title game. Three players earned all-league honors.
 
Manning returned to Plattsburgh in 2016 and coached for three years. The Cardinals played in two NCAA tournaments with the 2017-18 season a highlight. They reached the Sweet 16 that year. Additionally, Plattsburgh won the SUNYAC regular season crown and the post-season tournament. It was the first time that double was achieved since 2009-10. Plattsburgh’s staff was named the SUNYAC Staff of the Year as well as the East Region Coaching Staff of the Year by both the NABC and D3hoops.com. The three-year record was 57-24, 42-14 in SUNYAC play. He recruited and coached five players who earned All-SUNYAC honors, one of whom was a two-time NABC First Team All-American.
 
At St. Michael’s, Manning coached the Northeast-10 Rookie of the Year. He led the strength and conditioning workouts during the season as well as on-court individual skill workout groups. He worked with the team’s Academic Liaison to assist players in class scheduling and academic advising.
 
He earned a B.A. in Individual Studies at Plattsburgh and a Masters in Educational Leadership from St. Lawrence in 2018. Manning taught PED 102 Strength and Conditioning at Plattsburgh for three years (2017-2019). He played basketball at Molloy College and at C.W. Post College for one year apiece before coming north to Plattsburgh.
