Kaigler enters his third season as an assistant coach with the University of Rochester men’s basketball program, having returned to the River Campus after spending the last four years as the head men’s basketball coach at Colby-Sawyer College in New London, N.H.
Just the third head coach in Colby-Sawyer men’s basketball program history, Kaigler helped the Chargers to 30 wins over his four seasons with the program, coaching a pair of All-Great Northern Athletic Conference honorees, as well as two 1,000-point scorers. Kaigler twice led the Chargers to the GNAC Play-In Round, as well as a GNAC Tournament Semifinals appearance in 2022-23.
In addition to his role as head men’s basketball coach at Colby-Sawyer, Kaigler served as a member of the Chargers’ Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, and also served on the NCAA’s Regional Advisory Committee, helping evaluate and rank teams for the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Prior to joining the Chargers, Kaigler spent two seasons as an assistant coach under Luke Flockerzi on the River Campus. In his first stint with the Yellowjackets, Kaigler helped the ‘Jackets to a 16-9 (7-7 UAA) record in 2019-20 and a 4-2 record in the COVID-19-shortened 2020-21 campaign.
In 2019-20, with Kaigler on the bench, UR won the Chuck Resler Tournament, Mark’s Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout and Holiday Inn Rochester Downtown Tournament, while four Yellowjackets earned All-Association honors, including first-team selection Ryan Algier, who went on to earn National Basketball Coaches Association (NABC) Third-Team All-America accolades.
Kaigler began his coaching career as an assistant coach at his alma mater, NCAA Division II Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY, spending one season with the Dolphins as an assistant coach, as well as the final two months of his tenure as the interim head coach.
With the Dolphins, Kaigler helped Le Moyne to its third-straight NE-10 Southwest Division Title and an NCAA Division II Tournament appearance with an 18-10 (14-6 NE-10) record, and saw a trio of Dolphins earn All-NE10 honors.
A 2018 graduate of Le Moyne, Kaigler played three seasons for the Dolphins after spending his first year at Gannon University in Erie, PA, appearing in 87 games and totaling 627 points, 305 rebounds, 80 blocks, 71 assists and 41 steals in 1,532 minutes played.
A two-year team captain, Kaigler averaged 7.2 points and 3.5 rebounds and shot 60.4 percent from the field in 17.6 minutes per game, helping the Dolphins make back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, win both the NE-10 regular season and tournament titles in 2017-18, and capture an East Region crown in the 2017-18 NCAA Tournament.
While in his lone season with the Knights, Kaigler helped Gannon capture both the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) regular season and conference tournament titles and make an NCAA Tournament appearance with a 23-9 (18-4 PSAC) record.
Kaigler also excelled while off the court at Le Moyne as a four-time member of the NE-10’s Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
A native of Syracuse, NY, Kaigler earned his bachelor's degree in communications from Le Moyne in May 2018.
