Ryan Shay

Ryan Shay enters his fourth year on the Yellowjacket staff.

During his time with UR, the Yellowjackets have improved their record every season and have an overall record of 61-43.  He has also helped coach 11 All-UAA selections during his time on the River Campus.

Shay assists with national recruiting efforts, player development, on-court coaching and strength and conditioning, in addition to all other facets of the program.

He joined team after two seasons of coaching at Alfred University where he helped the Saxons improve to 18-9 in his second season, reaching their first Empire 8 Conference tournament, ranking in the top five in NCAA Division III in points per game, steals per game and total rebounds. Shay also assisted the Alfred coaching staff in student-athlete evaluation and recruitment, planning and implementing practice, scouting opponents, organizing study hall, travel and meal planning, statistical analysis, organizing community service and film exchange.

Shay graduated from Houghton College in 2011 with a BA in Mathematics & BS in Business Administration with a minor in Education, and earned a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Alfred in 2014.

He played four years on the Houghton men’s basketball team, starting for three seasons, and was a 3-time American Mideast Conference Honorable Mention selection.  A 1,000 point scorer for the Highlanders, Shay was also a 2-time NAIA All-American Scholar Athlete. He also was the recipient of the Ron Holmes Award, given to a player that demonstrates outstanding basketball ability, character and academic achievements at Houghton.
