Laura Broderick

Laura Broderick

Laura Broderick joined the Rochester coaching staff in 2023, and has moved into the role of Women’s Cross Country and Track & Field Distance Coach during Summer 2024. She serves as the primary coach for women’s cross country, assists with the men’s cross country team, and works with both the men’s and women’s middle and long distance runners during indoor and outdoor track seasons.

During Broderick’s first year on the River Campus, the Yellowjackets sent male and female individual qualifiers to the 2023 NCAA Cross Country Championships. She assumed primary responsibility for coaching the team’s long distance runners during the 2024 track season, and coached Sennett Turner ’24 to the Liberty League title and a new school record in the women’s 10,000 meters. Under Broderick’s direction, the Yellowjacket distance runners combined for a total of 22 AARTFC qualifying performances, and earned 14 medals at the Liberty League Championships during the 2024 track & field season. The women’s cross country team also received the inaugural Peyton Family Team Academic Award from the UR Department of Athletics & Recreation in 2023-2024, an honor that recognizes the Rochester varsity team with the highest combined team GPA.

Broderick came to Rochester after a two-year stint as a graduate assistant coach on the women’s track & field and cross country teams at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. While at Smith, Broderick enjoyed tremendous success in cross country, helping coach the team to back-to-back appearances at the NCAA Division III Championships. Her time also saw five Pioneers earn All-NEWMAC conference awards and five earn USTFCCCA All-Mideast Region recognition. Smith also had one NEWMAC Rookie of the Year and earned the conference Coaching Staff of the Year in 2022 during Broderick’s time.

Smith student-athletes made two appearances at the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships during Broderick’s tenure. The Pioneers won two individual conference titles and helped set eight new Smith school records. The teams succeed in the classroom as well, with ten individuals and both programs earning USTFCCCA All-Academic awards.

Broderick previously worked as a Project and Design Specialist for Sonoma County Tourism in Santa Rosa, California.

A 2018 graduate of Scripps College, Broderick was a cross country and track & field distance runner for the Claremont Mudd Scripps program for four seasons. She was an All-West Region runner and two-time All-Conference recipient in cross country and helped the Athenas finish 13th and 15th at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships as a sophomore and junior.

Broderick earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Scripps College and later earned a Master’s degree in Exercise and Sport Studies from Smith College in 2023.
