Steve Christenson enters his first year with the Yellowjackets in 2012 and comes to the University of Rochester with a great deal
of experience both in collegiate and club soccer.
Christenson joins the Yellowjacket staff after spending more than three years as the Director of Coaching for Doug Miller Soccer in
Rochester. As the premier club’s DOC, Steve was able to oversee the club’s coaching staff and design and organize the club’s training curriculum. In addition, he served as the head coach for several teams within the club and was hired as the head coach for the Rochester Ravens, a member of the Women’s W-League. Christenson was also responsible for managing the Doug Miller Sports Dome and for coordinating and promoting all leagues, camps, and scheduling within the organization.
Previous to joining DMS, he served as the head coach for the for the Utica College Men’s Soccer program in Utica, New York.
While at Utica, Christenson led the Pioneers to their first ever Empire 8 Conference tournament appearance in 2007, following up with a second consecutive tournament appearance in 2008. In 2007, Christenson was named Empire 8 Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year after recording the best single season record in program history. Also a member of the Physical Education staff at Utica, Christenson produced one NSCAA All-Region selection and twelve Empire 8 All-Conference selections. Steve was named the head coach for the Pioneers after spending two seasons as their graduate assistant.
Prior to his arrival at Utica, Christenson spent several years on the coaching staff at Roberts Wesleyan College. Christenson is also involved with the New York State West Olympic Development Program (ODP), where he has been on the staff since 2007. In 2009, he was named Coach of the Year and in 2008 his ’92 Boys team advanced to the Region I finals. Steve currently holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) “A” License.
A 2003 graduate of Roberts Wesleyan, Christenson graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and earned a
Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Instruction for Inclusive Classrooms from Utica College in 2007. Steve and his wife, Tarah, reside in Brockport with their son Reid, 2.
